This weekend isn’t nearly as star studded as the last one, but it’s no slouch. It starts off mellow, but by Saturday it’s getting ready to kick you in the teeth (in a good way). We’ve got to warm up to that, and we’ll do so with a few sing-writers. (I’m coining this shortening of singer/songwriter as of right…now!) Enough silliness. Music time:

My favorite thing about this weeks picks is that I’ve discovered yet another local band that I was previously unaware of. This weekend is also jam-packed with big name tickets, some of which may be very difficult to come by. I’ve provided alternatives that are definitely worth checking out. Curious yet? Away we go:

I have to admit, I got my guts ties in a knot over some of the tunes in town this weekend. The show I’m most excited about is Saturday’s pick. How often do you get to go to a real, old-school soul show? Bottletree has not one, but three excellent southern soul legends on the stage for your listening consumption. But let’s begin at the begee, shall we?

Now that Easter is over, there’s a long stretch with no Major Holidays. Don’t worry about it! Just shorten your horizon a little. Look to the weekend, and the many delights it holds:

Another weekend is upon us. I can almost hear the collective sighs of the populace as they prepare to vent their pent-up frustrations into the atmosphere. What better way to facilitate said release than to head to one of the following shows. Music: It’s good for what ails ya. Take one, and call me on Monday.

First off, it would be wrong of me not to mention ShamRock, the extravaganzafest happening at Sloss on Saturday in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. I know it’s been covered elsewhere on the site, so I’ll leave it at that. There’s a lot of chaff in the line-up, but you should check out The Bridges. They’ve got some interesting stuff going on. Now, onto the picks:

One of the benefits of doing these picks for you folks is that I get to discover all sorts of music I would never have otherwise noticed. And more often than not one of these discoveries turns out to be a really chunky nugget of goodness. Such is the case with our first band this weekend. Take a gander:

Some of the major venues have nights without music this week, but there is still some great stuff if you’re willing to go adventuring. Does everyone have their feathered adventuring hats on? Well then, off we go:

Things are looking up in the world of music this week. I’m super psyched about Thursday’s pick, and as I’ve previously indicated in this column, I’m always down for a Sons of Roswell gig. So strap on your space goggles and get ready for your weekend to begin here in Birmingham. Starting…NOW!
r3vrb destinations 2.14 – 2.16
I didn’t get out to see many shows last weekend, what with watching my father run until his legs almost fell off. I did catch The Fiery Furnaces, who were everything I had hoped they would be. How was your weekend? I can’t hear you, you’re on the other side of the screen from me.
