Enjoy the Duke Spirit and The Bottletree next Friday!

We wanted to take a moment and wish the folks over at The Bottletree a happy 2nd anniversary! They have been extremely supportive of the efforts of Birmingham’s hub since we’ve started and all of the folks over here sincerely appreciate all they’ve done for us and our local music scene in the last two years.

While we can’t give away tickets to this Saturday’s anniversary show (all of us think you should be there regardless), we can give you a chance to enjoy one of the first shows of their third year of existence in style. Hop on over to Timetable to learn more

Music and movies over on Timetable

There are many of you that probably wonder just what does that stationmaster do when he’s sitting there editing posts? Well, even if you don’t, I’m going to tell you anyway – I’m normally drowning out the sounds of the outside (except for the trains that run by our current headquarters) with a fairly eclectic collection of music. This addiction of sorts has picked up steam since running The Terminal has led to a growing collection of CDs that need to be shared with everyone else. That includes the new album by Dead Confederate (released today) that you’ll actually see me attempt to review as soon as you head over to Timetable

You’ll also get a chance to hit the previous post button and check out Whitney’s recent chat with Crewless Productions’ Chance Shirley. So even though it’s a gorgeous day out there, take a few minutes and hop on over there.

See, a music and movie fix over there…

So what’s up with our calendar?

That’s been a popular question in recent weeks… it’s not because we aren’t wanting to put information up. It’s because we’re preparing to launch a new one. We wanted to make sure that we were offering the best services possible while living up to our tagline of being Birmingham’s hub. It’s our hope to launch our new system (and a couple other surprises) in two weeks. If you want to learn more and want to help us launch it, drop me a line.

In the meantime, we’d ask that you use our current calendar submission form or email/DM/call us using the many methods available on our contact page (though we’d suggest sending event submissions to timetable@bhamterminal.com).  We’ll do our best to post information about events on Timetable (which is also undergoing a redesign of its own of sorts – pardon the construction).

Come out and get a Taste tonight

Taste of the Nation logoWe are still under a flash flood watch this evening in parts of the metro area, but we’re hoping that folks still take a moment and attend tonight’s Taste of the Nation event at the McWane Science Center. We’d like to thank those of you that entered the contest and those of you that visited the event’s website to learn more about this important cause. I’ll be there this evening and I hope that I’ll get a chance to meet some of you.

You may also want to venture over to Timetable just in case you aren’t able to attend tonight. Whitney’s gives readers a head’s up on a great show at The Bottletree while Andrea Walker reminds us that we can check out some of the art before ArtWalk invades downtown in early September.

It’s back to school time… got plans?

I sure have been enjoying our weather lately. The cool breezes remind me there is hope; Fall does follow summer. There are other reminders that summer is almost over — school bells are ringing, and some of our favorite summertime series, like Art on the Rocks, are coming to an end. But you can always have some fun while saying goodbye. Head over to the Timetable for the details.

Explore the hub today!

In case you thought there wasn’t anything going on around The Terminal today, we’ve got Terri Dann’s return to In Love With action over on Timetable sharing her adventures with wedding planning and we’re hoping that you’ll let us know who your favorite band is when you answer our latest Magic City Question

Decisions, decisions at the end of the week

It’s that time again. Time when you see the light at the end of the tunnel and realize you’ve survived another week of to-do lists and endless meetings. Only one thing left to do on that to-do list and that’s decide your weekend plans.

So get to it. Here are my suggestions.
