UPDATE: Have you found the Droid X yet?

UPDATE: Congrats to Alex Abenoja, who found the phone at the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame earlier today.

Apparently no one has found the phone yet, and that means it’s about to get very interesting here in Birmingham, AL.

Droid XLast week Verizon Wireless announced that 21 Droid X from Motorola phones had been hidden across the country. The phone is due to be released for sale to the general public tomorrow (July 15). Some of the clues that had been provided suggested that one of the phones is located right here in The Magic City. Here are the clues previously shared about phone #8:

  • Five days until Droid X designate #8 will be in a city built on steel. Droid X is built on 1Ghz processing power.
  • Workers here built the rocket that went to the moon. They might think Droid X designate #8 came back from there.
  • Droid X designate #8 doesn’t wish it was in Dixie. Or connect in hdmi. Because it’s already both.

Apparently there have also been latitude and longitude clues provided via Twitter (@droidlanding to be exact). Which also means that there will be a few folks wandering the metro area looking for a new free cool smartphone… maybe.

They’re getting ready to talk to us after all

UPDATE: Leon Redbone’s in town TONIGHT!

Leon RedboneUPDATE: Congratulations to James Gilbreath, our winner and thanks to those who participated.

One person at random will find out at 4 p.m. that they’ve got a chance to win two (2) tickets to see Leon Redbone live and in person in Birmingham’s Five Points South entertainment district. Sipsey Tavern is located at 1926 12th Ave. S (the former Bailey’s Pub location for those in the know).  I’ve got a feeling that you’ll recognize the voice behind the theme song to Mr. Belvedere (it’s the video linked here) and classic Saturday Night Live appearances among other things.

How do you enter? You’ve got to have a Twitter account and you’ve got until 3:30 p.m. CT to retweet the following for all to see:

Check out Leon Redbone @sipseytavern TONIGHT @ 8 pm http://bit.ly/cJwPhn – RT to win tickets from @bhamterminal #bham

Think of it as an early thank you for those of you who’ve visited the site.

BTW – A head’s up – it may not be up tomorrow.

In case you don’t win, limited tickets are still available for $40 each and they’re still available by phone (205.202.4116). Good luck! We’ll let you know who wins at 4 p.m. both here and on Twitter…

A Festivus gift for one of us

AirCurveWe’ve got this Griffin Technology AirCurve that we’ve been wanting to give away for some time now. The thought of doing it today just seems to make some sense. There’s no form to fill out or need to add your name to a mailing list. We’re just hoping that we’ll get a chance to see you today at The Bottletree.

Some folks are holding a Festivus tweetup this afternoon starting at 3 p.m. at the popular gathering spot and music venue. All we’re requiring is that you seek me out at said event and say “It’s Nice to Have You in Birmingham.”

Enjoy the Duke Spirit and The Bottletree next Friday!

We wanted to take a moment and wish the folks over at The Bottletree a happy 2nd anniversary! They have been extremely supportive of the efforts of Birmingham’s hub since we’ve started and all of the folks over here sincerely appreciate all they’ve done for us and our local music scene in the last two years.

While we can’t give away tickets to this Saturday’s anniversary show (all of us think you should be there regardless), we can give you a chance to enjoy one of the first shows of their third year of existence in style. Hop on over to Timetable to learn more

Sweet reasons to vote

It’s our civic duty. One that we at the Terminal highly encourage. And while it feels good to be a part of the political process, there’s a better reason to vote today — yummy ice cream.

So grab your “I Voted” sticker and proudly wear it to either The Summit or Patton Creek locations of Ben & Jerry’s from 5-8 p.m. for your free scoop. Both locations are participating in the giveaway. Earlier in the day, you can get a free tall cup of joe from Starbucks. Then drive over to Krispy Kreme for a free star-shaped doughnut to enjoy with that coffee. Now, the guy we spoke to at the Hoover location say he didn’t think they were participating, but the guy at the 1st Avenue North location said the offer is being made at all stores. So sure bets are East Lake and Midfield. Enjoy!

There’s scholarship money to be had!

Has college tuition got you down? Are you wanting to show off your wordsmithing skills to the some of the folks at one of the best magazines out there? Are you a full-time undergraduate student at a two or four-year college? Well, we might have a solution for you…

mental_floss has teamed up with Borders and Miriam Webster are offering you a chance to win one of five (5) $10,000 scholarships in their College Ain’t Cheap Tuition Giveaway. You’ll write an essay of no more than 750 words talking about why you should win one of the prizes (in the style of mental_floss of course), usable on tuition and/or books in Fall 2009. If you don’t win one of the first prizes, the consolation prize is pretty cool itself. You really don’t want to start practicing procrastinating (you may do a lot of that when you get to college, though I wouldn’t suggest that), so enter now (the contest ends on January 31)!
