A Festivus gift for one of us

AirCurveWe’ve got this Griffin Technology AirCurve that we’ve been wanting to give away for some time now. The thought of doing it today just seems to make some sense. There’s no form to fill out or need to add your name to a mailing list. We’re just hoping that we’ll get a chance to see you today at The Bottletree.

Some folks are holding a Festivus tweetup this afternoon starting at 3 p.m. at the popular gathering spot and music venue. All we’re requiring is that you seek me out at said event and say “It’s Nice to Have You in Birmingham.”

Election ’09:Let the mayoral forums begin

We’ve learned this morning that two mayoral forums have already been announced. The first one will be held by the Jefferson County alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta on November 17. The second one we learned of is being organized by Catalyst for Birmingham and is scheduled to be held on December 1.

The real question becomes “Will people pay attention and take these events seriously?”

I figured one way to do it would be by seeing what folks would think about parts of my platform if I were to throw my hat in the ring… there’s still time, right?

UPDATE Election 09: The Bell been rung

Bell for mayor sign 2009

UPDATE: We’ve just received a press release confirming that Bell will announce his candidacy Thursday morning at 10 a.m. in Linn Park, the same time that Scott Douglas will be announcing his in Kelly Ingram Park.

While we’ve heard rumors about a possible run for mayor by former Birmingham City Councilor and current Jefferson County Commissioner William Bell, this sign is the first one that we’ve seen up around town (in the city’s Norwood neighborhood across the street from Cosmo’s). Well that and his website’s already up though still under construction after telling The Birmingham News that he was considering a run last week.

There are already several folks who’ve thrown their hat in the ring.

Additional signs announcing his campaign were seen along Greensprings Avenue this evening.

UPDATE: City Stages 2009 | Acts announced, website unveiled

This morning we’ve started seeing the first acts for City Stages 2009 be announced and dissected (courtesy of The Birmingham News and Wade on Birmingham respectively). So, what else can we add?

cs2009screenWell, for starters the festival ‘s new website is scheduled for launched today – this morning actually. Whether that happens or not, it’s our understanding that It has been built using WordPress, the same CMS program used to operate The Terminal. The site will feature the festival’s new logo and allow you to share your favorite City Stages memory. We also know that we’re planning our own special City Stages section again this year, though it is still not ready for its own unveiling as of yet.

So for the time being, we want to know what you think – as Birmingham’s world class music festival is the basis of today’s Magic City Question.
