Birmingham Heritage Festival to return in August

Birmingham Heritage Festival logo - courtesy of websiteThis morning the Birmingham Heritage Festival announced that it will return, with the music portion of the festival taking place August 14-16 in downtown Birmingham’s Linn Park. The festival will also include community empowerment seminars running from August 11-13 at Boutwell Auditorium.

Urbanham.com posted the official press release which contains the names of the first acts to be confirmed for this year’s festival as well as a link to its new website. Announced acts include Keyshia Cole, Angie Stone, Chaka Khan, Flo Rida, and Atlantic Starr. The website also lists Musiq Soulchild as scheduled to perform though they were not included on the press release.

There had been an announcement made via the Internet in late January.

Christmas comes to Birmingham tonight

The joy of the holiday season will fill Linn Park in downtown Birmingham as the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony takes place. The annual parade will begin at 5 p.m, moving north along 20th Street North and ending at Linn Park where the ceremony is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. It should be warm enough to enjoy the excitement.

Learning to save the fun way tomorrow in Linn Park

Way2Save logo - Wachovia.comMayor Langford will be among the many in attendance at Linn Park tomorrow morning beginning at 11 a.m. as part of Wachovia’s Way2Save Challenge. Birmingham is the current stop on an 11-city tour that aims to educate consumers about the importance of saving. Some of our city’s youngest residents, pre-K students from John Herbert Phillips Academy, will learn to save their pennies in a piggy bank activity, while some of our other residents will be trying to make sure that more students have a chance to further their education, in a fun way…

ONB Magic City Art Connection, Linn Park

The ONB Magic City Art Connection (MCAC) celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. This free, outdoor art exhibition festival will take place in Linn Park in downtown Birmingham.

Recognized as one of the 12 best art shows in the country, MCAC features artists from all over the country exhibiting and selling their work. A special element to the event is the Imagination Festival for Kids, featuring over 30 interactive art workshops for children. Regular attendees will also be looking forward to the annual Corks and Chefs tasting event. We’ll add additional information about it as it becomes available.
