Ludacris says he’s not playing Heritage Fest

UPDATE: 8.11.2009 – The organizers of the Birmingham Heritage Festival  have announced that this year’s event has been canceled. The Birmingham News has the details.

Apparently the reduction in ticket prices last weekend for this weekend’s Birmingham Heritage Festival has encouraged its organizers to move forward with it (at least according to the front page of their official website. Those who bought tickets to see Ludacris at the festival on Friday night though may be a little disappointed; the hip-hop star sent out the following tweet last night:

Bogus promoter alert!!! Birmingham, AL Heritage festival, completely false. Luda will not be there so don’t buy tickets!!!

Birmingham Heritage Festival to return in August

Birmingham Heritage Festival logo - courtesy of websiteThis morning the Birmingham Heritage Festival announced that it will return, with the music portion of the festival taking place August 14-16 in downtown Birmingham’s Linn Park. The festival will also include community empowerment seminars running from August 11-13 at Boutwell Auditorium.

Urbanham.com posted the official press release which contains the names of the first acts to be confirmed for this year’s festival as well as a link to its new website. Announced acts include Keyshia Cole, Angie Stone, Chaka Khan, Flo Rida, and Atlantic Starr. The website also lists Musiq Soulchild as scheduled to perform though they were not included on the press release.

There had been an announcement made via the Internet in late January.

UPDATE: Is the Heritage Festival returning?

UPDATE – 5.19.2009: According to Urbanham.com, the festival will return in mid-August. Here are the details.

A quick look around the Internet late last night brought up this page of information for folks wondering about the future of the Birmingham Heritage Festival.

There is no location listed but there are dates for this year’s event (in August) and contact information for anyone looking to be involved in the festival. We’ll keep an eye on it and look forward to doing some coverage of it this summer.
