City Stages 20 is over… and now the Monday morning quarterbacking has no doubt begun.
So, who’d you like?
FYI - we’d intended to launch a special section for the festival, but we had issues with our Internet connection all week making it difficult to complete it on time.

First off- this was the best City Stages in YEARS! Best act- without a doubt- Buddy Guy. His set was great, energetic and totally riveting. And, man, he can sure control a crowd….
Also really enjoyed the Carolina Chocolate Drops Friday night. They were so good we went right to the artist merchandise tent and bought the CD. Sunday’s most fun act was the Wailers- reminiscent of my college days. Robert Earl Keen was really good. Had the crowd singing along. And he managed to hit all of our favorites! It was well worth staying up way too late.
Could have done without Shooter Jennings.

I’d never seen her before, and I was shocked by Ingrid Michaelson’s magical set. I expected to enjoy her, but oh my word. Amazing.
I also really loved a lot of local acts–Act of Congress, Jon Black (and Guys with Guitars) and The Dexateens in particular.

I heart Michael Franti and Ben Harper–I’m sooo glad they came this year. My friends and I were all pretty disappointed about the amount of trash (beer cans, soda and water bottles) that people threw on the ground. Next year, the Alabama Environmental Council will be improving recycling, but we wonder if the crowds might help us out? Throwing your trash on the ground, even if you know someone will clean up after you is irresponsible and selfish. Let’s do better Birmingham!
