Our first blogging awards explained

The Terminal's "Junction" in detailPeople following us on Twitter and Facebook are aware that we launched our first ever blogging awards on Monday morning in partnership with b-metro Magazine. It’s gotten a great deal of traffic so far though it hasn’t been mentioned by many people. We wanted to make sure that those of you not on those networks understood the basics.

There are two separate sets of categories – a readers choice poll and a juried contest that will also contain a readers choice component beginning August 30. Nominations for both sets of categories will close next Friday, August 27, at 11:59 p.m. CT. We’re asking effective the publishing of this post that those submitting readers choice nominations fill out at least three (3) of the categories per submission (you’re allowed to submit one set of nominations per day). Those submitting their blogs for consideration of in the juried categories are required to submit an entry fee of $10 per category.

Those of you looking for suggestions on what blogs and posts to nominate will be interested in checking out our new blog aggregator, http://bhamterminal.com/managingnews. It’s a work in progress but we think it will become quite useful to folks in the coming weeks and months. We’re looking forward to adding more blogs to the list and hearing which ones are your favorites!

A Festivus gift for one of us

AirCurveWe’ve got this Griffin Technology AirCurve that we’ve been wanting to give away for some time now. The thought of doing it today just seems to make some sense. There’s no form to fill out or need to add your name to a mailing list. We’re just hoping that we’ll get a chance to see you today at The Bottletree.

Some folks are holding a Festivus tweetup this afternoon starting at 3 p.m. at the popular gathering spot and music venue. All we’re requiring is that you seek me out at said event and say “It’s Nice to Have You in Birmingham.”

It’s time to vote for Birmingham’s Best again

Birmingham's Best 2009 logoIt’s that time of year again. The Birmingham News and AL.com have announced that they’re taking nominations for the Birmingham’s Best awards through Monday, October 5. You’ve got to enter choices for at least 10 categories and include a valid email address for your submission to be considered. After they tabulate the votes, they’ll give you a top 5 in each category from which you’ll choose Birmingham’s Best in the near future.

Yes, The Terminal came in second last year in the best website category and we still appreciate all of the folks that voted for us. That said, we’ll see what’s in store for us this year – and for everyone else. Don’t wait, get over there and start voting!

BTW – did you vote for the Tuxedo Junction photo online today as well?

Win Dora the Explorer tickets!

No, we’re not kidding… we are giving away one (1) family four pack of tickets to next week’s performances of Dora the Explorer LIVE! Search for the City of Lost Toys at the BJCC Concert Hall courtesy of Nickelodeon and Broadway Across America. There will be three performances in two days, June 9 & 10, and the lucky winner will need to be available for any of the times (Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. with a matinee performance at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday).

Click here to access the entry form. You’ve got until 12 p.m. on Monday. Good luck!

BTW – If you need some help figuring out plans for the weekend, Jason’s picks are up over on Timetable.

Be Birmingham contest reopens!

That was the internal name for the “orange sign” contest that we recently attempted. We received one entry for the contest from Rod Needham (that’s it up above), at which time we learned that because of changing servers last week, folks may have found it difficult to submit their entries. BTW, Rod’s submission, which will be uploaded to the set by this afternoon, said that he thinks of “precipitation” when he thinks of Birmingham… You’ll have to read his entry. That said, I figured we’d reopen the contest, starting… NOW! NOTE: It closes on Thursday, March 12, at 5 p.m.

Need more info? Make the jump…

UPDATE: About those orange signs…

UPDATE: The photo submission form has been turned on… and the contest has been extended until Thursday, March 12 @ 5 p.m.

Many of you who stopped by our booth at TechMixer last night were asked to take home orange signs – and we wouldn’t tell you why…

Well, now we are.

We want you to show us what Birmingham means to you! The one that we think is the best gets a $50 gas card! I thought you’d like that…

The rules after the jump.

Enjoy the Duke Spirit and The Bottletree next Friday!

We wanted to take a moment and wish the folks over at The Bottletree a happy 2nd anniversary! They have been extremely supportive of the efforts of Birmingham’s hub since we’ve started and all of the folks over here sincerely appreciate all they’ve done for us and our local music scene in the last two years.

While we can’t give away tickets to this Saturday’s anniversary show (all of us think you should be there regardless), we can give you a chance to enjoy one of the first shows of their third year of existence in style. Hop on over to Timetable to learn more
