Follow-up: The Tory MEP “goof” aftermath

A few things have happened since we first posted about the error made by Tories representing Birmingham, England. The story for those not familiar with it is that representatives for England’s Second City launched a new website recently. The site included a skyline image… of Birmingham, AL.

We’ve learned that the site was up with the error for some time, at least since January 3 when this post first pointed out the error. UK bloggers have been enjoying pointing out the error, one that representatives are calling “a simple mistake”. What’s interesting to us is that it didn’t get fixed until about an hour after the British blogosphere exploded with posts about it (we luckily got ours up in that hour, just before the image was taken down).

We’re “In Love With” Timetable’s newest column

Thanks to yesterday’s storms, we didn’t get a chance to properly introduce and welcome back Terri Dann to our band of merry bloggers. Not that she’s ever really left – she’s contributed previously to Timetable and is currently settling into her new job at Birmingham-based Mental Floss magazine.

“In Love With” is about whatever Terri decides it will be about, but always about something that relates back to things happening and going on in The Magic City. Check out the first edition of the column and let her know what you think.

Ringling Bros. sends the clowns into Birmingham today!

Clowns from “The Greatest Show on Earth” (a.k.a. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus) are hanging out at area Birmingham Public Library branches today. You probably don’t still have time to catch them at the Smithfield branch for their 10 a.m. appearance.

It may be a better bet to head on over to the Central branch this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. for a special performance. A great way to laugh off the craziness at the end of the week!

So, you want to join this motley crew of writers? Cool, because we’re going to need a lot more folks like you in the coming year to keep this thing going…

We’re looking for anyone that has a true passion and love for Birmingham, Alabama, its metropolitan area and all that it has to offer. Our submissions section (recently edited – check for the changes) offers a little more information about what we’re looking for in each section – and know that we’re not just looking for writers either. Photographers, video folks, people that like to podcast – all are welcome.

We still can’t pay you yet, and we’re not going to be too picky, though if you could forward us a sample of your writing that would even be better.

So come on out to Java and Jams (321 20th Street North) buy some coffee and let’s start a conversation in this city.

TechMixer Expo 2008, McWane Scence Center

TechMixer Expo 2008 is a technology networking event organized by TechBirmingham and sponsored by morethan 30 technology organizations and companies.  It’s the four ever event, allowing tech professionals and enthusiasts from the region to learn more about the area’s numerous technology user groups as well as providing a venue to share ideas.

If you’re a member of a tech user group you can participate by reserving a free table and staffing that table with someone from your group that can talk about what it offers.

Oh yeah, it’s FREE!
