Follow-up: BCRI formally receives National Medal in Washington, DC

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute formally received its 2007 National Medal for Museum and Library Service that was first announced in mid-November. On hand to receive the award in Washington, DC from First Lady Laura Bush and IMLS director Anne Radice were BCRI CEO Lawrence Pijeaux, Jr. and Birmingham City Schools family involvement coordinator Shirina Davenport (to Pijeaux’s left as you are looking at the image). Random Shots: A new location for FedEx/Kinko’s

New Fed Ex location downtown

There may be a few folks that are wondering where their downtown FedEx Kinko’s store is? Well, it’s just opened this morning at 312 20th Street North in Birmingham’s city center. For those new to the situation, they were the last tenants on the block that’s been slated for redevelopment by Corporate Realty as apartments.

Their former neighbors have all found new locations in the greater downtown area as well, including Reed Books on 2^nd Avenue North, Scott’s Koneys (now on 21^st Street South). And yes, we’d argue that the new payment center for the Birmingham Water Works on 1^st Avenue North is at least pretty close to downtown (it’s even got drive-thru lanes).

Especially if you’re anywhere near the official race route for the 4^th annual Red Nose Run. Christina talks about this year’s race over on Timetable, but we figured that you’d be interested in knowing what streets you might run into delays on tomorrow morning.

So basically, if you think you’re going to be near the area between 2^nd and 4^th Avenues South and 16^th and 32^nd Streets South tomorrow morning. You could also just check out this cool map that visualizes it for you…

We just figured you’d like to know. The race starts at 7 a.m. and there is a 10 miler involved…
