The First 100: The other guys cover the mayor’s first State of the City address

Everyone seems to be taking away something different from yesterday’s first State of the City address presented by Birmingham mayor Larry Langford. For those that want to know what he actually said, you’ll want to go to CBS 42’s website (get to their local news section) scroll through their online videos and click on the link to the full 30-minute speech. (Yes, it’s there; we actually have a copy of that coverage, but it’s their video, so check it out if you’ve got time). Then take a look at the following links to see how the mainstream did with their coverage.

A little snow and ice fell around the Magic City Wednesday. Not much to get excited about but enough to remind us it is winter. Tonight’s lows are not going to get below freezing so no need to stock up on bread and milk.

Parliament House’s coming down

The University of Alabama at Birmingham has begun to raze the vacant Parliament House hotel on 20th Street and 5th. Avenue South. The 11-story, 223-room hotel was built in 1964.

Magic City Question: So Idol starts tonight… you gonna watch?
That would seem to be the $1 million question. The two-hour premiere will no doubt get some viewers, but we want to know if the home of Idols will watch this season? One person’s opinion is that American Idol has finally jumped the shark…
