Take a moment: The Community Kitchens of Birmingham is looking for volunteers
For those of you that made a resolution to give more of yourself in the coming year, here’s a request from The Community Kitchens of Greater Birmingham. They currently booking volunteer dates for the first three (3) months of 2008. The dates available as of when we received the information are:

Are you enough in the know about our local scene?
We freely admit that we’ve been slow to complete the transformation of our own arts and culture section into what we hoped it would be in the beginning (though we’re thinking that you might like the direction it’s appearing it will be going in).
A bulletin and blog post on MySpace yesterday though that made us begin to wonder about the local area’s web presence.
Which of course, leads to today’s Magic City Question.
We really want to know what you’re thinking on this one ( I think all of us websites are). Hopefully you’ll be able to give us an answer or two.

We do normally start our day out with John’s A Look Back column, (which will make an appearance around 8 a.m. today) but we figured we couldn’t pass up this opportunity to point out something from “across the pond.”

The First 100: “Watch me pull a city out of my hat…”

Well, that’s not necessarily one of the opinions being offered up by one of the commenters to The News’ online poll this morning about Birmingham, AL’s new logo, but there’s still time; it may come up.
Just in case you missed it, the new logo was first unveiled with the launch of the city’s revamped website on January 1 (and only then if you really looked around on the site, particularly one of the headers, like we suggested). The reaction’s been mixed, though lively. Add your comments to the discussion, or you can always write something here too and keep it on topic.
UPDATED: 5.27.2008 to reflect that city seal is still in use in tandem with city logo, per comment by Dystopos.
