The seal is pretty bad and needs updating, but I'm not sure this logo is the way to go. It looks more like pandering than official business. Anyway, according to the News this is meant to complement, not replace, the seal.

The comments left on the al.com post were pretty crazy. It seems like the monopoly board one is the most common which I would say is pretty spot-on. The thing is, I don't know if any government entity really produces hip logos. The other thing I would add is that the Birmingham News (and by extension al.com) may want to start requireing people to indicate their city of residence before allowing a post. Most of the comments on the board are indicative of the all too typical naive over the mountain logic toward Birmingham. thank you again for having a site that is much more positive and for offering a forum for people like me that love this city.
