A strange two-part request

I’m not exactly sure if this will work, especially since there are so many folks that will probably not see this in time, but it doesn’t hurt to ask…

We did the math last night and figured that there’s got to be at least 50 It’s Nice to Have You in Birmingham (Black Terminal) t-shirts currently floating around The Magic City. We also figure that most of you will be at least considering showing up at the Magic City Art Connection during this weekend (rain or shine). So, we were wondering if it would be possible to get most of you to wear your shirts this weekend when you head out there – I’ll wear mine on Saturday.  We just figured it would be a pretty cool way to let folks know who’s reading the site (and maybe even get some more folks involved).

There’s a second part to this request – to ask all of you that currently have shirts to send in a picture to us of you wearing it. We’ll share it with everybody else in a new gallery that we’re setting up as soon as we get the first images in. Send your photos to photos@bhamterminal.com or if you’re a Flickr member, add them to our Flickr group.

Thanks a lot and enjoy the weekend!

Boutwell’s the tipping point tonight

This morning’s Birmingham News points out the frequency that days of prayer are held in the city (as Mayor Langford prepares for one this evening officially announced earlier this week) well as the rumblings about legal action that may be taken if it’s found to be an official government event. The event has definitely drawn some criticism, even locally. We even have our own veiled opinion, though from a slightly different angle.

We’ve gotten a few responses to our current Magic City Question; as we get ready to change it later on today, we’d welcome anyone else that wants to lend their voices to the conversation.

Remixing the classics, Scrollworks style

Scrollworks logoEarlier this week, Scrollworks and the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra (MYO) announced a remix contest. For those not familiar with the concept, you’ll want to check out the details on their blog. You get to rework a recording of the MYO in concert performing Paganini’s “Moses Variations” with Michael Fernandez, principal violist of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

Why should you be interested in this? Because you have a chance to win $250, that’s why! That and it means that you’ll want to go to the MYO’s concert at the Carver Theatre on May 11 to find out who wins. You may also want to take a moment and learn more about this incredible project taking place in The Magic City…

Parks and music elsewhere on The Hub

We haven’t been completely silent on the site today…

Barry Copeland’s shared his second post with us (over on my Birmingham) about the park-nership taking place in Birmingham.

Over on Timetable, Sam’s ready to convince us to take a side trip to the Raindrop Festival as part of his music picks for the weekend

Hope you’ll take a moment and check both of them out!

This is a NO spam zone

A quick note from your friendly neighborhood stationmaster here. First of all, welcome to all of you who’ve recently discovered the site. We owe a great deal to some emails in recent days that have begun to expose us to a wider audience. We do want to make sure that you’re enjoying the experience though and one recent email’s got us a little worried that folks are staying a little quiet.

We guard our email lists dearly, almost to a fault, because of how much we hate spam. Well, we got an email earlier this morning that said that after signing up for one of our email lists (though we’re still not sure which one), they started receiving spam. If you’re having that problem, we need to know! We’ve actually held off posting items today because of checking to make sure our lists were OK and not compromised. We only send out one newsletter a week using iContact, while the daily post emails are handled by FeedBurner. Those should be the only ones you’re getting from us.

Drop us a line using any of the methods listed on our contact page and let us know if this has happened to you. We’d really appreciate it.
