A soundtrack for our Urban Fabric

Head on over to Timetable and you’ll notice that you’ve got not one, but two chances to be dancing at your desk today (if you’re at work that is) courtesy of Ken Webb’s new weekly series on Live 100.5 FM, Urban Fabric with Ken Webb.

We’re not only posting the playlists for the show each week, which airs Saturday nights from 10:30 p.m. – 1:30 a.m., but we’re also uploading the Heavyweight selection to Timetable each week. We’ll also be updating the lists to include links to the original songs (in case you’re interested in getting them yourself).

For those wondering about the show itself, check out this mid-January post. You can also follow Urban Fabric on Twitter and keep track of what’s going on with Ken via MySpace.

Everybody won this weekend

There was some beautiful weather with weekend, perfect for those that participated in the 8^th running of the Mercedes Marathon & Half Marathon as well as the BE5K race on Saturday. Congratulations to the thousands that participated as well as to all of the winners.

While the official results are not yet posted on the site, you can check out results from previous years and have it bookmarked for when they’re certified. Check out Fox 6’s website for video of children crossing the finish line for the Kid’s Marathon.

Gordon Bell ventured out yesterday morning and took some great images, now available for you to take a look at over in The Gallery.

By the way, if you want to share your photos from race day with the folks here on the site and you’re on Flickr, add them to The Terminal’s Flickr group and we’ll get them up here as soon as possible.

Fair Park Locomotive moving to Sloss

Birmingham’s Fair Park has long been home to this 1917 “war baby” steam locomotive. Well, on February 22 it’ll be settling into its new home on the grounds of the Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark site. It is the result of an effort led by Mountain Book mayor Terry Oden to raise the $150,000 necessary to pay for the transport of the locomotive by flatbed railcar to its new home. The Birmingham News ran a piece in mid-January with details for those interested in helping out with the move.

Birmingham’s shovel ready!

I’ll admit I didn’t know what that term meant . until a recent consulting trip out to Colorado (and based on this, I may never get a chance to know). Now, it’s become one of the most popular terms associated with our national economic crisis. Now, Stimulus Watch you can track the progress of the $69 million dollars worth of projects that the city submitted for federal funding…

We thought you’d like that ability. Go ahead and share your votes and thoughts on the individual items. The website’s homepage provides more information about how you can do just that as well as why it exists.

Where’s Brooke Smith?

Looks like we’ve had a lot of folks stumbling onto The Terminal recently trying to find out where NBC 13 traffic anchor Brooke Smith is. Well, according to her blog on the station’s website she hasn’t gone that far. The Albertville native is now preparing to host the latest edition to daytime news programming, Daytime Alabama, airing after their midday news broadcast.

The show doesn’t officially premiere until next month, though preview episodes aired last week.

Birmingham’s Twitterverse keeps on growing…

Some of the benefits of being on Twitter? Well, if you were following us last week, you would have had a chance to win tickets to opening night of Ain’t Misbehavin’ (congrats again to Michael Mayhew) and had a chance or two to get yourself a Terminal T (BTW, the new store launches – finally- tomorrow morning).

wOOt! Foodimentary wins a “Shorty”

Kudos to Foodimentary, a blog and Twitter feed based right here in metro Birmingham, AL (Homewood to be exact) as they are the winner of this year’s Shorty Award for food! The Shortys recognize leaders in producing short content using the popular microblogging site. Here’s a video primer for those not familar with Twitter.

Wondering just how popular and powerful Twitter can be? Foodimentary’s profile currently provides fun facts about food to more than 29,600 followers!

We don’t know if they’ll be able to attend tomorrow’s awards ceremony, but we hope they are able to, considering that CNN’s Rick Sanchez will be hosting with tweeters Shaquille O’Neal and MC Hammer being involved in the fun.
