Your nose will be red on Saturday morning…

Red Nose Run logoSince your nose will be red anyway if you head out this coming Saturday morning (the current forecast is calling for lows near 30°), maybe you should sign up for this year’s Red Nose Run benefiting the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama.

The 7th edition of the race will double as the Southern Region RRCA 10 Mile Championship (but don’t worry – you have the option of just doing the 5K route).

We’re thinking the long-sleeve t-shirts and the earwarmers provided to participants should be enough to get folks out for this worthy cause. These tips on how to approach running in the cold should be helpful too. Or you could just sleep in and donate and not go out (but it probably wouldn’t be as much fun).

OK, how about the discount rate for registering via active.com before Friday evening? There’s always being one of the volunteers on race day too…

2010 Montclair Run results are in

2010 Montclair Run logoThere were apparently many who enjoyed the warm weather on Thanksgiving Day morning and ventured over to Montclair Road to take part in the 34th annual Sam Lapidus Montclair Run. It’s a safe guess since it’s been one of the most searched for terms leading folks to the site in recent days. It only makes sense then to post the link to the official results as shared over on OnlineRaceResults.

Proceeds from the race benefit the Childhood Cancer Research Fund at Children’s Hospital and the fitness program at the Levite Jewish Community Center.

We’ve also taken the liberty of creating a PDF of the results so there’s a permanent record somewhere in town. By the way, we haven’t tested it yet, but we’re assuming that you can still “Sleep in for Sam” and make a donation to the research fund.

Everybody won this weekend

There was some beautiful weather with weekend, perfect for those that participated in the 8th running of the Mercedes Marathon & Half Marathon as well as the BE5K race on Saturday. Congratulations to the thousands that participated as well as to all of the winners.

While the official results are not yet posted on the site, you can check out results from previous years and have it bookmarked for when they’re certified. Check out Fox 6’s website for video of children crossing the finish line for the Kid’s Marathon.

Gordon Bell ventured out yesterday morning and took some great images, now available for you to take a look at over in The Gallery.

By the way, if you want to share your photos from race day with the folks here on the site and you’re on Flickr, add them to The Terminal’s Flickr group and we’ll get them up here as soon as possible.

Marathoners take over downtown this weekend

I could tell you that we’ve been quiet this week because of getting ready for the Mercedes Marathon on Sunday, though I’d be lying (as much as I wish I wasn’t).

Mercedes Marathon logoThis year the Mercedes Marathon will take over Birmingham’s central business district (and parts of the metro area) on both Saturday and Sunday, February 9 & 10. We’d like to take a moment and look at the charities that will benefit from the masses of humanity moving through town this weekend (and to find out why you should be out there cheering them on as they run/walk/dance through your part of town):

BTW: There’s still time to sign up at the expo too (tonight and tomorrow) 🙂
