Do we really need to say any more? This is the line at The Summit at around 6:15 this morning.

By the time you see this, AL.com should have already hit the area and prepared some video for later on. Fox 6 was already there when I pulled up. And I have a feeling there will be a few folks that will blame Highway 280 traffic for being late to work today while secretly waiting for the new Apple iPhone 3G. Just saying…

There’s more beer to drink today

There are a few things going on today in Birmingham (as Christina pointed out in her column on Friday); last night some of the staff decided to check out the Magic City BrewFest at Sloss Furnaces.

Good People Beer being served at BrewFest 2008 in Bimingham, AL.

We ran into some good people, Good People and ,of course, great beer. It’s looking like the rain’s going to cooperate (at least a little) this afternoon, so we may see you out there again today. We might even try a live post. BTW – for those of you reading this and planning to attend today, check out the event website’s front page for an update on what’s going on today.

Those that were in downtown Birmingham last week may have noticed city crews working around traffic lights and light poles, particularly along 20th Street North. Well, a closer look at this picture shows that the city employee is spray painting the traffic signal casing black. Poles and pedestrian crossing signals were also painted black as bright red banners were hung with the city’s new logo.

A rainbow graced the Birmingham area this morning. At times it formed a faint second rainbow, but that one did not last long. The main rainbow lasted for more than a half an hour. The photo was taken looking southwest toward downtown from the Roebuck area.

Ads to ride off into the sunset

This could be the last time you see this image — if you missed Saturday’s Birmingham News, you missed this story on the removal of these ads by the BJCTA, at the mayor’s request, because it was presenting a bad image.

So what do I think? Find out over on my Birmingham… then let us know what you think.

Random Shots: A bird’s eye view

A bird's eye view Bob Farley/f8PhotoAs a photographer I’m always trying to find a different vantage point, looking for a new angle on a common subject. I recently had the opportunity to make some photographs from the unique view a helicopter provides.

From my view high above the city, I could see how physically close Birmingham’s industrial past and its more white collar present are to each other. Minutes by car and seconds by helicopter I could go from the corporate world of downtown to the heavy industry on its borders. Click on the image to the left (or here) to view some of the shots taken; otherwise, keep reading after the jump…
