Signs of progress at and around Regions Field

01092013 RegionsFieldconstructionThere are some who drive along 14th Street daily to check on the progress of the new home for the Birmingham Barons, Regions Field. Many of them watch to see just how they’ll finish it in time for Opening Day in April.

Well, for the time being, those cars will need to be driving along 1st and 3rd Avenues South instead in order to check on progress as detour signs greet cars as they approach those intersections.

This is the way it is expected to be for approximately the next month as construction continues on the sporting venue located across the street from Railroad Park. One thing to note – Good People Brewing Company‘s taproom will maintain its current operating hours. It just means that you’ve got to park alongside Railroad Park or on 2nd Ave. S. between 14th and 15th Streets and walk to it. It also means the 2nd Annual Birmingham Brewnanza Brewery Collectible Show being hosted by the local chapter of the Brewery Collectibles Club of America is still on too, and that’s a good thing.

There’s some other stuff happening nearby as recapped on the Birmingham Business Journal‘s website earlier today as a result of another pending deal to build housing along the park.

We’re about to turn 5, so it’s time for more pie!

Terminal bday logoWe don’t often get a chance to let the hub wear its party hat, but we’re turning five on Wednesday!

What do you do to celebrate? You announce the return of #piecampbhm, of course!

We’re happy that the folks at Good People Brewing Company are willing to let us bring our pies into the taproom that evening (plus, starting today it’s staying open until 10 p.m.). The registration form’s up so please let us know if you’re able to come out (so we can be ready).

As we did last year, we’re asking folks that can’t attend (or who don’t want to bake a pie) to make a donation to the Birmingham Education Foundation & to help spread the word.

UPDATE: Brew B-Q at the “14th St. Entertainment District” tomorrow

UPDATE: We’ve been informed that this is a beer tasting event hosted by Piggly Wiggly in the parking next to Good People Brewing Co. Check out this flyer for more information. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Magic City Harvest and Alabama Tornado Relief.

Good People Brewing logoYou figured with all of the excitement among craft brewers in Alabama about the passage and signing of the Brewery Modernization Act into law that it wouldn’t take long for one of them to announce take part in a their post BMA event.

Well, wait no more – Good People Brewing Co. will be the answer (sort of) to that trivia question here in Birmingham, AL and it’s this Thursday.

It’s already shaping up to be a fairly busy day in the Magic City with the YP Street Fair taking place along 2nd Ave. N. between 23rd and 24th Streets and the Birmingham Museum of Art holding a VIP party for the opening of their Who Shot Rock & Roll exhibit. Craft beer fans can now add a visit to the parking lot next to Good People’s home on 14th Street South to the list for Brew B-Q, an event being hosted by Piggly Wiggly. Tickets are currently available for $25 at all area Piggly Wiggly locations. A beer tasting as well as Full Moon BBQ is included. There will apparently also be a chance to win a private beer dinner for 10 people.

The Hops are free! It’s time to celebrate!

Free the Hops glass - courtesy of freethehops.orgThis morning Governor Riley signed the “Free the Hops” bill into law, news that seemed to make most of the folks here in Birmingham and the rest of the state of Alabama quite happy as Memorial Day weekend begins.

Here in the Magic City, it’s been announced that there will be a celebration this evening at The J. Clyde beginning at 5 p.m. that will feature a cask ale courtesy of Good People Brewing Company. It also means that all drinks and appeitzers will be $4.

New Good People brew debuts at Harvest Brew

The post title pretty much tells the story. 9 Numbers is reporting that Good People Brewing Company will be introducing an Oatmeal Stout tomorrow evening at Homewood’s Harvest Brew event. Tria Market’s blog has all of the pertinent information on this Oktoberfest celebration beginning at 5 p.m.According to the 9 Numbers post, it’s a limited release, so if you don’t get it tomorrow, you’ll want to get on over to the J. Clyde and Five Points Grill next week.

While we’re at it, the folks at Good People are asking folks to become fans of their page on Facebook instead of becoming friends with their profile.

There’s more beer to drink today

There are a few things going on today in Birmingham (as Christina pointed out in her column on Friday); last night some of the staff decided to check out the Magic City BrewFest at Sloss Furnaces.

Good People Beer being served at BrewFest 2008 in Bimingham, AL.

We ran into some good people, Good People and ,of course, great beer. It’s looking like the rain’s going to cooperate (at least a little) this afternoon, so we may see you out there again today. We might even try a live post. BTW – for those of you reading this and planning to attend today, check out the event website’s front page for an update on what’s going on today.
