We’ll plug this one more time before next week, but since this version of the ad won’t fit in the sidebar, we figured this was the best way to share info about the upcoming Johnny Disco show with courtesy of DJ Urban Fabric and DJ Ken Webb at The High Note next Saturday: Check it out after the jump or just visit the site and check it out on the sidebar.

The Warlocks play the Magic City!
FYI: From now on, I’ll be channeling the days of LiveJournal yore by including a “Song of the Moment” or “sotm” tag at the end of my posts here on Timetable; just an injection of new music into your workday.
MOVING ON…
From the first moment I heard their band name leave the lips of my idol (Interpol frontman Paul Banks), I knew I was in love. After listening to them for what seems like the better part of my college life, the Warlocks are playing BIRMINGHAM! Wow, I can almost hear all two of us freaking out over here on the North Side at the mere idea. For those of you unfamiliar with them, The Warlocks are proclaimed as “relentless, hypnotic wall of sound that suggested a collision between classic psychedelia, Krautrock and Velvet Underground style rock and roll.” That doesn’t seem a fair enough description given the depth that a band with two drummers and four guitarists has. Although confusingly listed on The Bottletree’s site under Black Angels’ billing description, they are WORTH EVERY PENNY. This is a rare opportunity for Birmingham.

Back on the horse and better than ever, that’s me. How’s your dead end? At least music can lift you up from the gutter for an instant or two and give you a glimpse of the golden. Here’s your fix for the short term:

My favorite thing about this weeks picks is that I’ve discovered yet another local band that I was previously unaware of. This weekend is also jam-packed with big name tickets, some of which may be very difficult to come by. I’ve provided alternatives that are definitely worth checking out. Curious yet? Away we go:

Got plans this weekend? 4.4 – 4.6
April showers bring May flowers … that’s if you stock up at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens big sale. Big is an understatement. This is the largest plant sale in Alabama history! Lots to choose from, good prices and all proceeds go to the Gardens. I myself want to do everything possible to support the Gardens and keep the admission free. It will break my heart if they ever start charging. To attend the sale is free too and the hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Happy planting!

I have to admit, I got my guts ties in a knot over some of the tunes in town this weekend. The show I’m most excited about is Saturday’s pick. How often do you get to go to a real, old-school soul show? Bottletree has not one, but three excellent southern soul legends on the stage for your listening consumption. But let’s begin at the begee, shall we?

Another weekend is upon us. I can almost hear the collective sighs of the populace as they prepare to vent their pent-up frustrations into the atmosphere. What better way to facilitate said release than to head to one of the following shows. Music: It’s good for what ails ya. Take one, and call me on Monday.

First off, it would be wrong of me not to mention ShamRock, the extravaganzafest happening at Sloss on Saturday in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. I know it’s been covered elsewhere on the site, so I’ll leave it at that. There’s a lot of chaff in the line-up, but you should check out The Bridges. They’ve got some interesting stuff going on. Now, onto the picks:
