The Bottletree Bailout is born!

For those that visited the site this weekend, the post at the top of the page best summed up my thoughts about the situation involving  The Bottletree and City Stages. So of course the next question was, what else to do besides asking folks to go. The answer is simple -> ask them to come out!

We’re calling a Terminally Happy Hour for this Thursday, July 2 – only this time it’s a Bottletree Bailout! We’re asking all of you that see this (and your friends) to come out to The Bottletree whenever you can during happy hour on Thursday – we’ll be getting there at around 4 p.m. – and enjoy meeting people from elsewhere in metro Birmingham while providing business for a venue that’s done a lot for us.

ypexpo2009Tonight more than 1,000 are expected at the Birmingham Museum of Art for the 3rd annual YP Expo. It will be a chance for more than 30 young professional organizations from throughout metro Birmingham and their memberships to mingle with each other and potential new members. The Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce‘s Meredith Davidson was recently interviewed by Magic City Living about the event and while there’s not time to register online for tonight’s event, which starts at 5:30 p.m., it is free and open to the public.

Today’s my Birmingham post deals with the question asked in the official press release for the event – What’s next?

The Classic’s tomorrow!

Just in case you don’t already know, America’s oldest ballpark, Rickwood Field, will be hosting the 14th annual Rickwood Classic tomorrow (Wednesday, May 27) afternoon beginning at 12:35 p.m. Our Birmingham Barons will take on the Mississippi Braves and taking a look back to 1982. Former Braves broadcaster Pete Van Vieren is scheduled to throw out the first pitch.

Check out Josh Self’s memories of attending the landmark facility on Birmingham’s West side over on My Birmingham. You may also want to check out this year’s poster for the Classic and find out more about the ballpark and its place in history over at its official website.

Bielenberg is the founder of Project M, what can only be described as a “life-changing…intensive” summer programs for young creative types. He will be stopping in on his way to Greensboro, AL, where he’s set up a studio next to Auburn’s Rural Studio, the inspiration for the initiative.

Participants in the program have been able to use their talents to look at supporting projects in Hale CountyEast Baltimore; Belfast, Maine; New Orleans; Costa Rica; and Ghana…

…and you’ve got a chance to talk to him here, tonight.

It’s easy to be green this weekend

It’s a full month before Earth Day is celebrated, but Birmingham’s already providing a couple of opportunities to be “green” this weekend.

Tomorrow the Green Resource Center for Alabama will be hosting its second annual Clover Crawl, being held this year at Vulcan Park. This year’s event will include a Green Home & Garden Expo and serve as the drop-off point for this year’s Ecycling Day activities, courtesy of TechBirmingham. You’ll be able to drop off items in the lower parking lot at the site (no TVs please).

For those wanting to partake in the warm weather and take in some greenery, there’s the Japanese Gardens Cherry Blossom Viewing at the Birmingham Botancial Gardens tomorrow starting at 11 a.m.

Looking for other more general options, let Jason be your guide over on Timetable.

Everybody won this weekend

There was some beautiful weather with weekend, perfect for those that participated in the 8th running of the Mercedes Marathon & Half Marathon as well as the BE5K race on Saturday. Congratulations to the thousands that participated as well as to all of the winners.

While the official results are not yet posted on the site, you can check out results from previous years and have it bookmarked for when they’re certified. Check out Fox 6’s website for video of children crossing the finish line for the Kid’s Marathon.

Gordon Bell ventured out yesterday morning and took some great images, now available for you to take a look at over in The Gallery.

By the way, if you want to share your photos from race day with the folks here on the site and you’re on Flickr, add them to The Terminal’s Flickr group and we’ll get them up here as soon as possible.

I couldn’t pass up a chance to plug Catalyst’s new website before we continue on this morning’s food kick. This evening they’ll officically launch their redesigned website with an event at Rojo featuring a performance by Matthew Mayfield and a remote by Live 100.5 FM. If you’ve got a moment, stop on by, especially since the first 75 that show up get free drink vouchers. If you get a chance, send us some photos from the event so we can share them with our readers… just saying…
