Thanks for coming out!

Just wanted to take a moment and thank those of you that came out last night to the Bottletree Bailout Happy Hour.

The Bottletree Bailout is born!

For those that visited the site this weekend, the post at the top of the page best summed up my thoughts about the situation involving  The Bottletree and City Stages. So of course the next question was, what else to do besides asking folks to go. The answer is simple -> ask them to come out!

We’re calling a Terminally Happy Hour for this Thursday, July 2 – only this time it’s a Bottletree Bailout! We’re asking all of you that see this (and your friends) to come out to The Bottletree whenever you can during happy hour on Thursday – we’ll be getting there at around 4 p.m. – and enjoy meeting people from elsewhere in metro Birmingham while providing business for a venue that’s done a lot for us.

Project M’s John Bielenberg’s in town today…

Project M logo - AIGA Birmingham…and he’ll be at The Bottletree this evening speaking thanks to AIGA Birmingham (it’ll be during happy hour – the festivities start at 6 p.m.

Bielenberg is the founder of Project M, what can only be described as a “life-changing…intensive” summer programs for young creative types. He will be stopping in on his way to Greensboro, AL, where he’s set up a studio next to Auburn’s Rural Studio, the inspiration for the initiative.

Participants in the program have been able to use their talents to look at supporting projects in Hale CountyEast Baltimore; Belfast, Maine; New Orleans; Costa Rica; and Ghana…

…and you’ve got a chance to talk to him here, tonight.

Come out to The Bottletree tonight!

bldglogoNo, I have not been screaming from the top of the City Federal building asking you to come out to The Bottletree tonight for our fairly mellow celebration of this site’s two years of existence (though that does give me an idea for next year).

Hopefully the weather won’t be too bad this evening and the basketball games on the screens should keep your attention if the announcement I’ll be making doesn’t…

See, now don’t you just want to come because of that last sentence alone? The radio silence can be blamed partially on tonight’s announcement as well, but not entirely. The fun’s starting around 5 p.m., there will be some white Terminal Ts given away to some of the lucky attendees (we’ll have a few for sale as well).

If you can come out, great; if not, pass this evite link along to a friend.

Tonight’s the Holiday Get Together

I’ve been working on some stuff behind the scenes and away from Birmingham’s hub today, leading to a lapse in posting – and keeping us from reminding folks earlier – but we’re hoping that some of you may be interested in showing up at Speakeasy this evening (1920 3rd Avenue North) for our 2nd annual Holiday Get Together. It just also happens to be Repeal Day (you know you’re interested).

We’ll have a few t-shirts for folks and if you feel like it, you can show up with a non-perishable food or monetary donation for The Community Kitchens of Birmingham (please have checks written out to the organization). We’re not charging a cover or really knowing what to expect; we only wanted a chance to see folks before the end of the year so we hope you’re planning to at least pop in for a second.

If you cannot attend this evening, please consider visiting their website or forwarding their URL to a friend and clicking on the Donate now button.

As always, enjoy the ride and the holidays!

Celebrate Repeal Day (and the holidays) with The Hub!

It’s the time of year where folks find time to come together and enjoy each other’s company – and we wouldn’t want it any other way! So how about putting our little get-together on your calendar now so you don’t forget?

Come on out Friday, December 5 for a special holiday edition of The Terminally Happy Hour downtown at Speakeasy!

Let us know you’re coming via RSVP at Facebook or Upcoming!

See, December 5 happens to be the 75th anniversary of passage of the 21st Amendement (a.k.a. Repeal Day), repealing the 18th Amendment (the one that ushered in Prohibition). So we figured, what better way to celebrate than to go to a bar named Speakeasy. We’re excited that they’ll will be letting us invade the bar that night. We’ll have some more information next week…

But if you know of any other holiday parties we can add to the list, let us know in the comments section.

Loads to do this evening

It’s going to be a busy evening here in Birmingham. We’re aware of a gathering over at the Railroad Park (giving attendees a chance to learn more about the project’s progress) as well as a fundraiser/mixer for YouthServe, providing a chance to learn more about the non-profit organization’s activities. Fans of Catalyst’s monthly Green Third Thursday event can head on over to The Birmingham Zoo at 6:45 p.m. tonight.

BTW – we haven’t mentioned it here on the site but if you feel like it we’re going to be enjoying a Terminally Happy Hour at The Bottletree this evening. Their happy hour officially starts at 3 p.m. – we’ll be there by 5 and be there for a while. We’ve got a Facebook invite set up for it right now, or you can just DM us using Twitter. Hopefully you can get out tonight; otherwise Whitney’s got another suggestion for you over on Timetable. Unless you’ve got another one to share that we’ve forgotten…
