On the agenda: City Stages

Today’s actually an extremely light agenda for the Birmingham City Council. The most interesting item of note, besides the one that cleans up the hurdles left in the implementation of the city’s new curfew laws going into effect today (#6), is #12, currently listed as being on consent.

If approved, it will provide the Birmingham Cultural and Heritage Foundation (the group behind City Stages) with up to $300,000 to assist in producing next June’s 21st edition of the music festival “to maximize family participation from all walks of life.” We’ll see if it’s pulled off from consent for discussion if not in person, online starting at 9:30 a.m.

A look back: June 16

A very special “Got Plans?”

Usually I use my weekly space here on The Terminal to tell you about all the cool things I either am doing or wish I could be doing during the weekend. I try to come up with 3 to 5 events, a mix of family-friendly and what I would do if I wasn’t a mama. This weekend however, I’m only focused on one thing and that’s City Stages. I’m excited, I’m ready and I’ll be there Friday through Sunday. So head on over to Timetable for my Top 5 things to do at this year’s 20th annual music festival.

We’ve got two more passes…

In case you’re wondering, we’ve already posted the names of the winners of the eight weekend passes we’ve been giving away forĀ  City Stages on the contest page. We’d like to take a moment and thank everyone who entered (and there were a lot of you) – and now we’d like to say that we still have two passes left to give away

We were thinking of the most fair way to give these two passes away while seeing folks show their love for the music festival (as well as for us)… and we’ve settled on giving them away separately. Here’s the catch, we’ve got to see you tomorrow (Friday) at lunchtime over at Java and Jams (321 20th Street North).

Follow City Stages on Twitter

Birmingham’s annual downtown music festival has recently introduced a Twitter profile to the mix of ways to keep track of what’s going on. The popular (and recently erratic) microblogging program allows people to follow people, places and in this case events either on the web, or using your cell phone’s SMS feature. If used effectively, it could let people know about delays in acts taking the stage and other events associated with the festival among other things.

We’ve been quiet with our Twitter profile recently, but hopefully that will change this week…

City Stages goes green

recycle logoThe Alabama Environmental Council and Waste Management are partnering to encourage attendees to this year’s City Stages festival to recycle. There will be seven (7) recycling stations throughout the festival site (staffed by volunteers in the evenings) asking festival goers to recycle plastic and aluminum cans.

Just keep an eye out for the Think Green t-shirts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings between 6 – 10 p.m. Of course you could win your way in to see what it’s like – your last chance to enter to win two sets of passes to the festival will be at about 5:15 tomorrow afternoon!

So, who won the first four passes?

We’ve got the names of the first two winners of weekend passes to City Stages 20!

Congratulations to Trey McClure and Geno Pearson! We’ll be sending you emails later today so you know where you can pick up your passes.

The entry form is still open and we’ll be announcing the winners of two more pairs of weekend passes next week Monday. If you entered last week before 5 p.m., we’re going to ask you to resubmit your entry.

We’re also going to ask that you bear with us as we’ll unveil our City Stages section on Wednesday instead of today…
