That’s what some of golf’s greatest legends will be doing next weekend during the annual Regions Charity Classic here at Birmingham’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Ross Bridge. The title sponsor has changed buildings downtown since last year’s event, now occupying space in the former AmSouth Building. Playing off of the buildings’ popular Christmas card to the city, they’ve decided to have a golfer grace the sides of its building through next weeks’s event.

Hopefully he’s not going to knock off the top of the Regions Harbert Plaza but instead swinging for that crescent moon in the distance…

Five Points West’s businesses are getting organized

The hopes and dreams for Birmingham’s western area have been front and center in recent months, including plans to revitalize the Five Points West commercial district with the proposed redevelopment of Fair Park and the opening of new businesses nearby (e.g., the city’s newest Applebee’s restaurant).

The Five Points West Business Association has been reactivated by city councilor Steven Hoyt to help unify the voice of the business community through the planned changes. Tonight he, Main Street Birmingham and Regions Bank are hosting their membership reception and organizational meeting at the BPL’s Five Points West branch beginning at 7 p.m. They’ll go over future plans for the area and ways that they can help themselves, including cooperative marketing. We look forward to seeing what happens next…

Good news for Birmingham area real estate

Amid the doom and gloom being reported about the national real estate market, there are two reports that should make Birmingham area developers and home owners quite happy. On the heels of Money Magazine naming Birmingham, AL one of the 10 fastest growing real estate markets in the country, The Birmingham Business Journal posted a story to their website today that the metro area is one of the top 25 places to relocate your family.

Kind of makes you wonder about Forbes’ designation of the city as one of the most sinful in the U.S. back in February… maybe some folks wanted to keep the good news a secret for themselves.

UPDATE: The Birmingham News… it’s gone blog!

Screenshot of potential “new” Birmingham News homepage.

Well, apparently not yet… though we were able to catch this screenshot of a revamped Birmingham News homepage about mid-morning – though it’s currently gone back to its original state. The redesign resembled the layout that is currently in use on al.com’s entertainment section.

We’re not sure if we just stumbled across something by accident or not, but we’re sure that our friends at al.com will let us know…

UPDATE: 1:12 p.m. – According to the folks at the paper, the page has been fixed, and it is now active as it is picture above. It was suffering problems due to the severe weather affecting the region right now.
