You going to BarCamp 2?

BarCamp Birmingham 2 - story logoThis weekend there will be a lot of folks at the Innovation Depot downtown participating in Birmingham’s second ever BarCamp (April 12 information). So you may be asking, “What is BarCamp?” It is our own “un”conference. OK, you probably need a little more info.

It’s a conference where the content is provided, chosen and presented by the attendees! It’s a great way to meet members of the local technology community and it’s FREE! You can sign up to attend and learn more about the sessions that are already being proposed by checking out its website. You may also follow their Twitter feed. You may also want to take a look at some of the sessions that are being proposed, including a chance to hear about some ideas for a certain website…

People are talking about laptops today…

… and it’s definitely a mix of opinions across cyberspace. It appears that even though the story broke several months ago, mainstream national media is just now beginning to report about the pending arrival of our school system’s XO laptop computers and it’s getting really interesting.

Birmingham View introduces “news portal”

Birmingham View editor in chief (and frequent Terminal contributor) Vickii Howell announced the creation of a virtual news portal in her monthly e-newsletter yesterday. This new addition to the publication’s website will allow for her to post stories as they happen that would otherwise not be able to appear on her television show or in the print edition. It also provide links to other sites that provide daily content, including a certain hub.

Head on over and check it out.

Starbucks to offer free WiFi in Birmingham, nationwide

Soon you’ll be getting at least a couple of hours of free internet access coming to you at Birmingham area Starbucks. The Seattle-based coffee company announced today that it will soon end its long term partnership with T-Mobile, instead working with AT&T to offer their customers up to two hours of free wireless access at all of their more than 100,000 locations for all AT&T customers and Starbucks Card holders before charging $3.99 for two additional hours of service.
