Well, I’ve actually been in the Nation’s Capitol since Friday evening – and I’m going to be here through early Wednesday morning. The city’s been buzzing since I drove in during the evening rush and the energy is just continuing to rise as millions of visitors funnel into Washington for Tuesday.

I’ll post photos as I can and I’ll see what other stories I can find while I’m here . The Terminal will see what it can do about covering issues closer to home for the next few days as well. If you happen to be in DC, I’ll be at SOVA Coffeehouse on H Street NE for a Flickr meetup Tuesday afternoon if you want to compare notes. NYC’s Cheyenne Diner being moved to Birmingham

Thanks to Twitter follower @BhamWiki, we’ve learned that New York’s historic Cheyenne Diner will be making it’s new home in Birmingham, AL. The diner was closed by a rival Midtown eatery early last year. The landmark Art Moderne structure was originally slated for a move from its home of 68 years at 9^th Avenue and 33^rd Street to the Red Hook section of Brooklyn (as reported on Gothamist in April). Unfortunately, it was beginning to look like efforts were not going to be successful.

The story about its now pending move to the Magic City was first reported on Chelsea Now yesterday with The Associated Press posted a news brief earlier this afternoon confirming the move.

A new look for Compass

Manolo Sannchez, President and CEO of BBVA Compass, celebrates the unvailing of the bank’s new logo at the company’s headquarters on 20^th Street South in downtown Birmingham this morning. The bank has started the rebranding process at the bank’s 92 locations in Alabama starting in Birmingham. The rebranding process will continue through March 2009. There are 579 branches and 734 ATMs being rebranded in the Southeastern United States. (ED: The website has not received the new brand treatment as of yet – ACN).

A rally for green jobs

This weekend dozens of people gathered in front of the Alabama Environmental Council‘s (AEC) Recycling Center downtown to do their part in showing our government and our Presidential candidates that they were ready for the country to focus on the creation of green jobs in support of a green economy. The gathering was part of Green Jobs Now – A Day To Build The New Economy, one of the largest days of citizen action focusing on economic issues and global warming in our nation’s history.

Random Shots: Get on board!

No, Larry didn’t have the streetcars re-installed overnight for the morning commute… Just figured I’d share this image with you on this Tuesday morning. It’s somewhat appropriate with today’s air quality alert for Jefferson and Shelby Counties and Birmingham’s mayor calling for transit system overhauls that we get a chance to check out what could be (and what is). While I wish I could say that I planned to take this image and attempt to follow Sen. Obama’s trip to San Francisco this past weekend, I did hope to take a look at one of the cities that put a bid in for the 2016 Summer Games while getting some great suggestions for ways to improve the site at WordCamp SF (while doing research for WordCamp Birmingham – taking place in September). The results – we’ll start sharing tomorrow (after I get over a minor case of let lag).
