We figured it’d be best to use the words of the FGC to describe the event as it’s the best:

For those who know us, good to see you again, for those who don’t, we provide the finest alternative, lactose and gluten free stand-up comedy you can buy. We’re returning to Safari Cup Coffee to kick off the first of our monthly shows. So after you hit all the art galleries that night, stop by for some stand-up comedy with Birmingham’s funny people. Funny ha-ha or funny strange? Most times both!

Blogging in the ‘Ham: A great resource for “Mom”

Searching around the web to see what we haven’t seen about Birmingham always brings some interesting results. The most recent discovery was that of a blog started to help make life easier for area moms. Birminghammom.com started last October as what has become a resource for area families to spend more time together. I’d try to do a better job describing it, but I will leave that to the original Birmingham Mom herself.

You going to BarCamp 2?

This weekend there will be a lot of folks at the Innovation Depot downtown participating in Birmingham’s second ever BarCamp (April 12 information). So you may be asking, “What is BarCamp?” It is our own “un”conference. OK, you probably need a little more info.

It’s a conference where the content is provided, chosen and presented by the attendees! It’s a great way to meet members of the local technology community and it’s FREE! You can sign up to attend and learn more about the sessions that are already being proposed by checking out its website. You may also follow their Twitter feed. You may also want to take a look at some of the sessions that are being proposed, including a chance to hear about some ideas for a certain website…

Some local Verizon Wireless customers have already noticed that they’ve got a couple of new features on their phone. The company announced recently that it would roll out its new Verizon Wireless VZ Navigator service in 75 cities, including Birmingham. It now provides another service for area residents to go along with Commuter Feed, which we wrote about back in February.

Drivers with access to the service will be able to view how traffic is flowing, and receive details about reported accidents, disabled vehicles and congestion along with suggestions for detours. The Gas Finder feature allows drivers to locate gas stations nearby and view gas prices at many area gas stations, providing turn-by-turn directions as needed… Now if the car could only drive itself it’d be perfect!
