Viridian brings EnergyKey construction to Vestavia Hills

The oldest known house on Shades Mountain will soon make way for one of the area’s first residential communities to be certified with eco-friendly building practices. NOTE: Click on the image above to see photos from the press conference and images of the house.
Yesterday Mike Wedgworth of Wedgworth Construction, Inc. and Dudley Reynolds of Alagasco spoke about the new 20-home residential development, to be known as Viridian, and a partnership between to the two companies for the project. The 10-acre property located in Vestavia Hills off Tyler Road is the site of a log cabin that dates back to 1819. Brick, stones, logs, flooring and doors from that structure will be salvaged and used in the new home construction. Natural gas service will be available for home heating, water heating and cooking. Vestavia Hills Mayor Scotty McCallum also attended the 2 p.m. news conference.

The World’s Longest Yard Sale begins
While many students returned to school today, several folks took advantage of the first day of The World’s Longest Yard Sale, otherwise known as the 127 Corridor Sale. Even with rising gas prices, the fact that you could leave Gadsden, AL and arrive in West Unity, OH and have a lot more stuff is just a cool thought. It’s going on until August 10. I mean, you could seriously just drive the first hour and find some cool stuff…

Learn Who’s Who in Black Birmingham
Tonight some of the city’s most prominent African American leaders will be gathering tonight at the Birmingham Museum of Art to learn who’s been highlighted in the latest edition of Who’s Who in Black Birmingham. The event starts at 6 p.m. In addition to the unveiling of the 2nd edition of the book (which attendees receive as part of their $50 ticket price), organizers are hoping to provide up to 1,000 of the city’s best and brightest Blacks the opportunity to network with one another.
