You did know it was Free Cone Day, right?

Free Cone Day imageSo you’ve just finished seeing the unveiling of a 9′ tall Blaze the Dragon (if you haven’t, we think we’ll have photos shortly) and you’re feeling like an ice cream cone. Yes, we know it’s in the high 50s but it is springtime…

and since we’ve been on this food kick since yesterday, we figured you needed to be reminded that today is Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry‘s locations across the country, including our three area locations.

On the agenda: The disparity study finally moves forward

So besides the 684 properties on this morning’s City Council meeting for having “noxious and dangerous weeds” (that’s got to be some kind of record), there is one issue that for some has taken way too long to finally reach the dais: a resolution adopting the results of the long referenced disparity study commissioned by the Council during the Kincaid administration.

There are four items on the agenda relating to the study (items 11 – 14): one that would adopt the findings; two that would authorize the Council’s economic development committee to create and appoint members to a sub-committee to create an implementation plan based on the results of the study; and one to approve The Freeman Group, LLC to facilitate the sub-committee’s planning efforts (for fees not to exceed $20,000).

It will definitely be interesting to see how the results are used to deal with this important issue in the city.

You can always watch the meeting at your desk on the city’s website; the fun starts at 9:30 a.m.

al.com is live – on Twitter!

So just before I was about to say that it was a shame that al.com hadn’t gotten it’s own Twitter profile yet – poof! – it magically appears.

Most of the mainstream media in the city recently joined the Twitterverse (even if they aren’t all joining in the conversation that it’s supposed to be spawning). Luckily though, unlike the tweets sent out by The Birmingham News, the links from the al.com feed actually take you directly to the stories directly.

Still waiting for that first Fox 6 tweet though…

We’re pretty sure that you’ve checked out all that we’ve written about this year’s Magic City Art Connection in Linn Park through Sunday.

But we figured you’d want to check out this scene courtesy of the Imagination Festival’s Eyebeam area, sponsored by Giattina Aycock.

Maybe we’ll see you out there today…

A female cardinal feeds her chicks in a nest built in an unused gas lamp in the backyard of a Roebuck Springs house on Birmingham’s east side. The chicks hatched about three days ago, a normal incubation period is 12 to 13 days, and if all goes well they will fledge the nest in the next week. The standard time from hatching to fledging is about 9 days or so.
