Who’s new on Twitter?

Birmingham’s Twitterverse keeps on growing…

twitter_28Some of the benefits of being on Twitter? Well, if you were following us last week, you would have had a chance to win tickets to opening night of Ain’t Misbehavin’ (congrats again to Michael Mayhew) and had a chance or two to get yourself a Terminal T (BTW, the new store launches – finally- tomorrow morning).

There are a lot of local organizations who’ve entered the scene. Here are links to a few of them (after the jump that is)… Continue reading

wOOt! Foodimentary wins a “Shorty”

food24Kudos to Foodimentary, a blog and Twitter feed based right here in metro Birmingham, AL (Homewood to be exact) as they are the winner of this year’s Shorty Award for food! The Shortys recognize leaders in producing short content using the popular microblogging site. Here’s a video primer for those not familar with Twitter.

Wondering just how popular and powerful Twitter can be? Foodimentary’s profile currently provides fun facts about food to more than 29,600 followers!

We don’t know if they’ll be able to attend tomorrow’s awards ceremony, but we hope they are able to, considering that CNN’s Rick Sanchez will be hosting with tweeters Shaquille O’Neal and MC Hammer being involved in the fun.

Congrats!

Artur joins the Twitterverse

Call us crazy over here, but follow along and see if we’re on the same page as everyone else…

A poll was unveiled on the 26th by Anzalone-Liszt (and shared via Doc’s Political Parlor yesterday) showed results that favored Congressman Artur Davis as he determines whether or not he may run for governor in 2010. Then this afternoon your favorite neighborhood hub is invited to become a follower of the U.S. Representative’s new Twitter feed

So we’re just wondering “When this ‘potential’ run becomes an actual one?”

A local Tweetup group? Maybe…

A local user of Twitter has taken it upon himself to create a group on Facebook for folks in town who use the popular microblogging service. He’s also called a Tweetup for December 29 at Urban Standard from 4-6 p.m. So if you can escape work early that first day after the Christmas holiday, you may want to go on over, check it out and let us know how it goes.

BTW, We’ll have information about our first Terminally Happy Hour of the New Year (on January 8) available soon – plenty of time to wind down from the long holiday season.

Do you Tweet?

Tweeting - courtesy of Macapper.comThis seems to be a popular question today as Twitter is becoming a more recognized part of everyday communication among people. We still maintain our primary Twitter account (if we haven’t invited you to join it from our other profiles, it’s coming soon). People seem to have all sorts of reasons for sending Twitter messages or tweets. Lisa Hoffman invited some of her followers to share their reasons on her blog while local blogger Ike Pigott updated his expectations.

What are your thoughts?

Bhamwiki’s now on Twitter

A lot of folks love the nuggets made available on our site weekeday mornings courtesy of BhamWiki. Now they’ve made it so you can get information from them even more often.

They’ve recently created their own BhamWiki Twitter profile, we think in part to expose people to everything that’s on it. We also think it’s a great way to maybe get some more folks interested in getting involved with the project. We’re definitely planning to use the wiki more often as our site begins to morph yet again.

An auspicious social media day

I wanted to take a moment to remind you that today is 08.08.08, considered an auspicious day to many. Not only is it the opening day of the Summer Olympics in Beijing, but it’s also the day announced for the latest installment of Another 24 hours of Flickr. Click on the image below to learn more information and see how you can participate.

If you want folks to know what you’re doing during the opening day of the Olympics and you use Twitter, you’ll want to make sure that you add #080808 to your tweets and check out this blog post from the folks at the microblogging service to find out how to track. And we’re not even talking about how many folks getting married today
