Langford to host town hall meetings

There are actually two stories that are taking place at the same time. First of all is the fact that The City of Birmingham’s Office of Public Information is on Facebook. The group is the latest move by the city to reach out to residents online.

Larry LangfordNow onto the reason for the post – Mayor Larry Langford is hosting a series of town hall meetings throughout the city. The first one, called “Why Birmingham Can’t Wait,” will take place on Thursday evening at Boutwell Auditorium beginning at 6 p.m. Additional ones will be held at area churches in the coming weeks, providing residents with the opportunity to ask the mayor and other representatives about current initiatives and learn about projects such as the planned repaving of neighborhood streets. You get to submit your questions for the mayor to ask as well in advance – via email to opi@birminghamal.gov. If you can’t make it to Boutwell, Fox 6 is scheduled to stream the event on its website.

Fox 6 unveils new website

The new look for the WBRC – Fox 6 website appears to be a little more streamlined than its predecessor.

One thing noticeable on under the About Us > Personalities section of the site is the absence of the profiles for Chris Montana, one of the 10 employees that were let go by the Birmingham, AL Fox affiliate late last week. I’ll also say that it was weird not to see morning traffic reporter Brooke Allen’s profile either…

The station’s celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

Neal lawsuit settled, new meteorologist coming to Fox 6

UPDATE: If you didn’t already know that Neal is a weekend meteorologist for CBS42 (since 2009), he’s also working for WeatherNationTV.

Two updates on the Fox 6 chief meteorologist front…

Earlier today AL.com reported that the lawsuit filed by former Fox 6 chief meteorologist David Neal had been settled out of court, with no details being released. While looking to see what else was out there about this story, we discovered that The Huntsville Times reported on Sunday that current WHNT meteorologist James-Paul Dice will be coming to The Magic City to serve as Fox 6’s new chief meteorologist.

Devon’s last day

Devon Walsh - courtesy of UAB.eduYeah, it’s true – if you didn’t already know, tonight will be Devon Walsh‘s last on Fox 6. According to her last blog post, she’s got a pretty good reason too – her husband’s finished his residency and his new job’s allowing them to move home to Mobile with their 5-month old son.

We know we’ll miss her and we’re sure you’ll want to tell her goodbye as well, so either comment here or how about on that last post of hers on the Fox 6 site.

David Neal’s OK; but he’s suing Fox 6

UPDATE: If you didn’t already know that Neal is a weekend meteorologist for CBS42 (since 2009), he’s also working for WeatherNationTV.

Well, we finally know what happened to former Fox 6 chief meteorologist David Neal.

The popular weatherman has not been on the air for several weeks, and based on this afternoon’s post by The Birmingham News, we know it’s not by choice.

They also have a link to a PDF of the circuit court filing containing the allegations being made.

Play 20 Questions to find your candidate

Fox News Candidate Matchmaker screenshotI’ve been on the fence when it comes to the 2008 presidential election. So far my only real opinion has been that the campaigning starts way too early. And I’m not alone. Recent polls by the Mobile Press-Register/University of South Alabama find 33 percent of Democrats and 29 percent of Republicans undecided.

So I was curious when Fox 6 tells me they have a handy-dandy “matchmaker” that will match me with my perfect candidate. With the Feb. 5 primary looming, decisions do need to be made. Though I still don’t think the Alabama results mean anything to the candidates. If it did, we’d see some commercials by now.
