Devon’s last day

Devon Walsh - courtesy of UAB.eduYeah, it’s true – if you didn’t already know, tonight will be Devon Walsh‘s last on Fox 6. According to her last blog post, she’s got a pretty good reason too – her husband’s finished his residency and his new job’s allowing them to move home to Mobile with their 5-month old son.

We know we’ll miss her and we’re sure you’ll want to tell her goodbye as well, so either comment here or how about on that last post of hers on the Fox 6 site.

A letter from André

I want to first of all thank you for your support during the last year while we’ve attempted to provide you a different source of information here in Birmingham.

We recently presented at BarCampBirmingham explaining why we created the site. Click here to view a portion of that presentation.

Last week we reiterated our intentions to launch a voluntary subscription model for The Terminal as a way to sustain it while introducing new advertising rates that, while a little lower than what many would expect, would allow us to expand our ability to maintain and manage this site. It would enable us to pay contributors for longer pieces and cover other expenses associated with running the site.

I wanted to let you know that we have determined that unless we are able to begin to generate revenue before June 30, we will have no choice but to shut the site down. We would stop posting new original content as of May 30.

If you want to help keep it going, you can participate in our voluntary subscription program, purchase one of our Black Terminal t-shirts or encourage local merchants to consider contacting us about advertising on the site. We have held off on publishing our new rates but would be happy to share if contacted.

Again, we appreciate those of you that have received support from in all the ways you’ve provided it in the past year and we’ll keep you updated as things progress.

Enjoy the ride!

Now you can find out if Cleveland really rocks…

Continental Airlines recently announced that they were starting nonstop service to Cleveland, OH from Birmingham, AL. Well, today’s the official ceremony recognizing the beginning of the service – even though service actually started yesterday. The flights will be operated by ExpressJet flying under the Continental Express flag.

There will be two chances to leave The Magic City daily to check out the Rock & Roll Music Hall of Fame, the Indians and (most importantly for basketball fans) LeBron James and whoever the other team is that’s playing the Cavaliers

… and we get a chance to win over some more converts.

Looks like we got two right…

City Stages formally announced part of their 2008 lineup via The Birmingham News as a front page article in Sunday’s (today’s) paper. This list includes a couple of big names – like Diana Ross and The Flaming Lips.

Looks like we were correct in identifying two of this year’s acts , The Roots (March 18) and Old Crow Medicine Show (yesterday). The News was able to figure out a couple of them as well (and a lot earlier than we were – see the Old Crow post to find links to those posts).
