We’ve learned that Mercedes Benz’ Vance plant has announced that their Plant 1 will be going to one shift, cutting all second shift work. They’ve also announced that Plant 2 will run both shifts but reduced volume and that some of the employees at the facility have been offered a $45,000 buyout with an additional $1,000 for every year they’ve worked there. Folks here in the city are quite connected, but they’re always looking for new ways to do so. NetworkingBirmingham has recently launched, including listings from ten area chambers of commerce, including Birmingham, Homewood, Hoover, Mountain Brook and Trussville, as well as a variety of other networking events becoming a resource that allows folks to track business networking events throughout metro Birmingham.
Users of the site can create a customizable calendar of all the events they wish to attend. It was created by Man in the Maze Marketing with the idea of helping business men and women throughout Birmingham become more effective networkers. They will work hand-in-hand with various Chambers in the metro region to ensure that the most current and accurate information is listed on the website. Users of the website can submit all types of networking events to be included on the calendar as well.

One day if you ever feel so inclined to ride the bus, the one you’re on may be powered by hydrogen fuel cells. Whether or not that’s a viable option or not will depend on how a demonstration bus called the EcoBus, being used by the BJCTA next year as part of a study at UAB, does in field tests around metro Birmingham. The announcement was made last week by the university, the bus will be built in Georgia and The Birmingham News has more details.

We really don’t have any idea how many people took part in or attended this year’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in downtown Birmingham. We do know that all that benefit from the funds raised are grateful for their efforts. Click on the image above to view pictures from this morning’s event courtesy of our own Gordon Bell.
