From the Stationmaster: New Comment Policy

Good afternoon everybody.

I’ve resisted doing this mainly because encouraging discussion about issues is a main goal of The Terminal. However, recent comments that have been submitted have led me to begin moderating all comments prior to their being posted effective immediately.

From the Stationmaster: Corrections from yesterday’s Parisian post

Maybe I should say it’s more of a clarification. Yesterday we posted about the Parisian name staying alive in Detroit, MI. I received a couple of emails pointing to the original 2006 press release from Saks Incorporated (which has been inserted into my comment on the article) that listed the locations that existed at that time. We figured we’d deal with some of the questions raised following our guiding principles:

From the Stationmaster: OK folks, some options for your Friday

We figured you’re wondering “Just what’s going on over there?”

Well…

we’ve just posted Terri Dann’s debut story on The Terminal about tomorrow evening’s Hand In Paw event (it took longer to post than we thought it would). Now if we can just make sure we can get her name into the backend of this thing…

We’ve also been reminded about The Spots’ live recording session at Speakeasy tonight, we’re doing a test run of This Day in Birmingham history in about 90 minutes, we’ve just secured additional door prizes for the launch party (they’ll be up this afternoon on the event’s info page) and…

We’re feeling a little hungry, so we’re going to hang out at Matthew’s Bar and Grill (quick blurb here) this evening starting about 5:30 p.m. (probably earlier, but its safe to say 5:30 p.m.)

If you feel like coming on down and picking our editor’s brain, go ahead and do it. (No, they don’t have their liquor license yet, but you know, it’s pretty hot anyway and some water or tea may just be the thing to hit the spot).

The Terminal Lanch Party/Happy Hour for a Cause 2, The Bottletree

Yeah, we’re finally having a launch party. We know it’s about time; we also know that you don’t want to miss it. We’ll be celebrating six months as the newest hub for information in Birmingham while raising monies and awareness for two worthy causes at The Bottletree.

What more do you need?

Breaking News: Water main break delays ASC Social Club event

Apparently this morning’s huge water main break at UAB is causing issues for the Alys Stephens Center. They don’t have water, meaning no bathrooms or air conditioning. As a result they’ve rescheduled tonight’s ASC Social Club Goes Bollywood event for Wednesday, August 29th from 6 to 8 p.m.

So if you’re not planning to join us for our launch party/fundraiser that evening, please consider heading over to the ASC for bellydancers, great food, Bollywood movies, cold drinks, and fun people – plus water, bathrooms, and air conditioning!

From the Stationmaster: Stay cool, surf the site, come out August 29th!

We’re trying to get ready for this launch party and we’re hoping that we can get more information out as it becomes available.

In the meantime we’re also going to start sending out bulletins on Thursdays and Fridays via MySpace and Facebook.

Despite the other posts that are up this week on both the front page and Timetable, we want to make you aware of one page in particular:

http://bhamterminal.com/launch/

Take a look, RSVP however you can, and pass this link on to others. Also let them know that we’re going to have a little meeting on Saturday morning for those that are interested in helping us out as we really get going. It’ll start at 10:30 a.m. at Java n’ Jams (near the corner of 20th Street & 4th Avenue North). If you come out, bring along a couple of story ideas with you as well.

Check out Timetable later on this afternoon for a post about the upcoming Hand in Paw event (or just check out the calendar entry).

Oh yeah, send us your story ideas & tips and submit your pics to (and join) The Terminal Flickr Group when you get a chance.

Thanks for getting on board so early.
