A very special “Got Plans?”

Usually I use my weekly space here on The Terminal to tell you about all the cool things I either am doing or wish I could be doing during the weekend. I try to come up with 3 to 5 events, a mix of family-friendly and what I would do if I wasn’t a mama. This weekend however, I’m only focused on one thing and that’s City Stages. I’m excited, I’m ready and I’ll be there Friday through Sunday. So head on over to Timetable for my Top 5 things to do at this year’s 20th annual music festival.

Friday the 13th, Sloss Furnaces

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED!

The folks at Sloss Furnaces have decided to take advantage of the date on the calendar (and being one of the most haunted venues in the region) by showing the 1980 classic horror film. Just in time to start planning to watch the new film due out in 2009.

They’ll show the film in the cast shed, provide chairs if you don’t want to bring your own, and free popcorn! You’ll also be able to bring in your own food and drink. A great spooky venue indeed…

For more information please visit their website or call 205.324.1911.

Cost: $5

Ruffner Mountain Nature Center Benefit, Java and Jams

Here’s your chance to support Ruffner Mountain Nature Center in its goal to raise the remaining $500,000 needed to build the beautifully designed Tree Top Visitors Center. Come listen to live music by Menewa, buy photographs by Terminal contributor Bob Farley showing the beauty and history of the mountain, and learn about what RMNC has to offer. Construction of the center is due to begin this summer. Java and Jams is located at 321 20th St. North.

Cost: Free (but we’re sure the RMNC folks would pocket a check or two. Or slip them a couple of twenties). Food and drink available for purchase.

There’s always room for more

So we’re sitting here at Day 2 of the Magic City Brewfest enjoying the crowd that’s here but wondering if we couldn’t see more folks out here…

It’s going to keep going today, rain or shine. Think of all the beer that’ll go to waste .
