Rebecca Ryan’s coming back!

Rebecca Ryan is the principal for Next Generation Consulting, and she last visited Birmingham, Alabama in late 2005 (yeah, I’m referencing a Dre’s Ramblings post) and spoke at the Chamber’s annual meeting and introduced us to this handprint of the city. This time… well, why not have Rebecca tell you herself…

It’s time to eat some pancakes

Considering we couldn’t take advantage of that free Grand Slam at Denny’s after the Super Bowl very easily here in metro Birmingham, tomorrow gives you a chance to enjoy helping a good cause while enjoying some pancakes.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is National Pancake Day after all, giving customers across the country and at area IHOPs a chance to enjoy a free short stack in exchange for providing a donation to the Children’s Miracle Network. 100% of all donations received in Alabama will go to benefit Childrens Hospital. It would be another way to shine attention on their planned expansion.

Help Hannah Grace

Hannah Grace Harrison is a three year old girl from Dothan, AL who was diagnosed with cancer last Spring. She is currently at Children’s Hosptial here in Birmingham, AL and she’s finished her final round (6 total) of chemo including a bone marrow transfusion. We found out about Hannah from one of our former contributors, Travis Bryant.

Hannah Grace needs our help. She is in dire need of platelets. They are continuously giving her blood and platelet transfusions. If you live in the state of Alabama you can donate the platelets. Giving platelets is the same process as giving blood.

  1. Call the American Red Cross at 888.905.3344
  2. Tell them that you want to donate platelets and you want to be a direct donor for Hannah Grace Harrison.
  3. They will take down your information and will call you back with a time to schedule the donation.

Help Nena and Ellie be recognized nationally

We’ve just learned about what you might call the American Idol of therapy dog awards. One of Hand In Paw‘s therapy teams, Nena Moon and her dog Ellie, are one of only five finalist teams from around the country competing for the Pet Partners category of the Beyond Limits Awards. It’s presented by The Delta Society, the international organization that registers professionally trained therapy teams. The winner is chosen by popular vote on the Society’s website. There’s a video on the website of Nena and Ellie in action at UAB’s Comprehensive Cancer Center (it’s the last one). So go, check it out and vote once a week through Feb. 7 (with one vote per ISP) and then tell your firends.

We Have Signal needs us!

If you haven’t seen the APT series We Have Signal… you need to check it out, like now or learn more about it by checking out this post from October. Bham.fm shared a note from series producer Matt Whitson earlier this month – a plea for help as the network’s recent budget cuts does threaten the long-term existence of this music series. One way to help is to head on over to Bottletree tonight to check out the benefit show. And you’re still here on the site because…
