The readers have spoken, sort of

Reader’s Choice logoEven though we won’t know the results until next Friday, it’s interesting to note that the online voting for The Birmingham News’ 2007 Readers’ Choice Awards over on al.com is complete. One take is shared here by local blogger Wade Kwon on his site Wade on Birmingham. It’s also the only place where you can see the list of finalists.

We kind of figured that we were just too new to be considered this year, though we are grateful to Matt for thinking us worthy in his list of suggested picks.
Here’s a look at last year’s winners just to let you know who’s trying to defend their crowns. It’s not the Oscars but we’ll be interested to see who wins.

Fleabomb gets a blog

Fleabomb Blog HeaderWe just got the word from Stanley Holditch that one of Birmingham’s original online sources has joined the blogosphere. Fleabomb is now posting their content at http://fleabomb.wordpress.com to provide an RSS feed for visitors.

Sam Davidson’s in town tonight

Sam DavidsonSam Davidson is in town this evening at WorkPlay. According to the Remarkablog, he’ll be here in Birmingham beginning at 5 p.m. to meet and talk with folks (and hand out swag). Davidson is the president and co-founder of CoolPeopleCare and the creator of the Remarkablog. The blog focuses on telling stories about remarkable people, places and things. The site gives people great ideas to make a difference in five minutes or less everyday. They are one of the inspirations behind what we’d like to become here in the community: a way to find out what’s going on and how to do and not just say. We’re hoping that one or two of us will be able to show up later on in the evening.

We normally don’t just say “go,” but this is one you should consider.

There is one feature that we’re going to invite you to use – or at least help with – next week we will attempt to roll out our new photoblog. Of course, in order to do that, we need photos.

Elsewhere on The Terminal…

As we attempt to get back on track today, please feel free to visit Timetable to learn about the latest honor bestowed on the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.

You may also want to head over to my Birmingham to read a reprinted editorial from André about the proposed BJCC expansion and entertainment district (or maybe its about something a little bigger…). Don’t forget to let us know what you think!

2007 Drought: A way to save your plants

Despite the recent increase in area rainfall (and the discussion about how it might have come to be), there is still a great deal of time before we see an end to Birmingham’s extreme drought. Some of our residents are becoming increasingly creative with how they plan to save their outdoor plants. One example can be found over at My Tiny Kingdom as Anne explores how she can save her plants while still being mindful of the conditions around her.
