Election ’07: We haven’t forgotten about your questions…

As we mentioned earlier this morning, we figured that you’d want to know what we were going to do with all of your questions that were submitted. NOTE: Thanks for submitting them to us by the way.

UPDATE: Hear their answers to your questions NOW on our Election ’07 site!

All of the candidates have been invited by mail, email or via hand delivered letters to participate in our online forum series as part of our Election 2007 coverage. The candidates have been asked to allow us to record their answers to those questions you submitted to our site. The answers will be posted during the week of September 10 – 14 allowing you to hear in their own words. The candidates will not know the answers that the others have given, keeping them focused on the issues. We will post one answer a day, with the last day posting both the last question and a question that has been asked specifically of them.

At this time, we have received commitments from two candidates. If you have not confirmed, or if you have any questions, please contact our managing editor, André Natta, either by phone or email as listed on our contact page.

Election ’07: Their online presence

Earlier this week, Patrick Cooper commented on our coverage of William Bell and Carole Smitherman having MySpace pages. He mentioned his own website, which was the first site up on the web among the candidates. He also pointed out his existence on Facebook for the last month.

Cooper For Mayor - FacebookMr. Cooper does in fact have a Facebook group, named for the mayoral campaign and administered by the campaign’s volunteer coordinator. It currently has 73 members. Here is a link to the group. NOTE: You must have a Facebook profile in order to view the group page.

We have provided links to existing web pages/sites for the candidates after the jump:

Scott’s Koneys is closed, but just for a moment

Scott’s Koneys - Image From John MorseThe rumors of their demise were premature, but only slightly. Black & White reported in their August 9 edition that longtime local favorite Scott’s Koneys was already closed. Well, yesterday was actually the last day for the 30+ year old establishment at its current location. Don’t get too upset though; they do still intend to move into the Liberty National building located at the corner of Richard Arrington, Jr. Blvd. and 3rd Avenue South. The foot traffic outside of the old location was steady today. Thanks to the Bryants of B’ham and our friends at Bhamwiki for the information.

The Launch Party: The “Cause” Recap

Talking At The Launch Party

Approximately 100 people came out to The Bottletree last night to celebrate the launch of this very website. We’d like to take a second to thank all of you that came out and those that sent along well wishes. We’ve already posted information about the door prize winners. Now we have to make sure that people find out about the other purpose of the event.

Yes, we did give away prizes…

There were door prizes given away last night at the launch party. We figured we’d post the winners… over on the prizes page. Go on over and see if you’ve won. (Yes, we will be contacting them as well via email).

We’d like to thank those that provided the prizes again for their generosity.

We called an audible and decided to give away five (5) t-shirts last night. We’d ask the following people to let us know what size t-shirt you want.

  • Caryn Gleason
  • Scott Green
  • Kristy Jaska
  • Emily Peterson
  • Kelly Seward

The shirt (all going well) will be making its debut next weekend when you’ll be seeing folks wearing them around Artwalk. We think you’ll like them. Which leads me to the other five shirts that we were planning to give away last night. We decided we’d hold on to them and give them away next week. We’ll tell you more about that on Tuesday…
