Let’s call happy hour tonight – seriously!

Foosball table

One of the new initiatives that we’re planning on is a monthly happy hour at The Bottletree. Since the weather’s cleared up (mostly), and mainly because I just want to see what happens, I’m calling happy hour for… TONIGHT!!

No, this isn’t the official start, but we thought what the hell (we did mention it on our MySpace profile yesterday).

From 5 – 7 p.m. tonight, venture on over to Avondale and sit out on The Bottletree’s side patio (it’s covered) and enjoy The Terminally Happy Hour.

Right now it’s pretty quiet (but there’s foosball to be played).

If not, we’ll have a couple of announcements tomorrow morning anyway. Enjoy the ride!

ShamRock, Sloss Furnaces

Sloss Furnaces is getting turned into a festive Irish venue on Saturday as they attempt to have the ultimate St. Patty’s Throwdown! ShamRock promises 10 bands for $10 = a low dough, family friendly event (though you’ve still got to be 21+ to drink).

Included in the admission price is Taste o’ Ireland for food lovers, various Feats o’ Strength and Big Glove Boxing for patrons to display their prowess and Beer Pong for those who enjoy a good game!

We’ve got the schedule (with links to all of the band’s websites/MySpace profiles) up over on Timetable.

Cost: $10

This Will Go On Your Permanent Record release party w/The2ndHand No. 27, The Bottletree

So you’ve got to check out this release party and reading for THE2NDHAND contributor Susannah Felts‘ first novel, This Will Go Down on Your Permanent Record, a sort of coming-of-age of the artist, a story of the commitment of youth, given freedom.

There will be readings by Felts, Birmingham poet Chris Lawson, and the trio of THE2NDHAND editor Todd Dills, contributor Nadria Tucker (winner of our 2007 Art Walk competition) and poet Emily Self as Pitchfork Battalion. Music by Through the Sparks‘ Jody Nelson.

Cost: Free

BTC First Friday, The Bottletree

The Birmingham Track Club has decided to try something a little different this year. Their First Friday events (not to be confused with the popular urban networking event series held across the country) will be an opportunity for current and long-time members to mingle while allowing for those interested in joining the group to see what it’s all about – without even having to lace up. Sounds like a cool way to check it out.

Keep your eyes open tomorrow morning

Especially if you’re anywhere near the official race route for the 4th annual Red Nose Run. Christina talks about this year’s race over on Timetable, but we figured that you’d be interested in knowing what streets you might run into delays on tomorrow morning.

So basically, if you think you’re going to be near the area between 2nd and 4th Avenues South and 16th and 32nd Streets South tomorrow morning. You could also just check out this cool map that visualizes it for you…

We just figured you’d like to know. The race starts at 7 a.m. and there is a 10 miler involved…
