Considering the weight of the items that were on the agenda today, we decided to hold off on our weekly preview and post now sharing some of the more interesting parts of today’s meeting. As the post title says, two items before the council during today’s meeting may breathe new life into two historic buildings in the Magic City – the Ramsay McCormack building in downtown Ensley and Quinlan Castle on the city’s Southside.

Swinging for the stars

That’s what some of golf’s greatest legends will be doing next weekend during the annual Regions Charity Classic here at Birmingham’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Ross Bridge. The title sponsor has changed buildings downtown since last year’s event, now occupying space in the former AmSouth Building. Playing off of the buildings’ popular Christmas card to the city, they’ve decided to have a golfer grace the sides of its building through next weeks’s event.
Hopefully he’s not going to knock off the top of the Regions Harbert Plaza but instead swinging for that crescent moon in the distance…

We’re pretty sure that you’ve checked out all that we’ve written about this year’s Magic City Art Connection in Linn Park through Sunday.
But we figured you’d want to check out this scene courtesy of the Imagination Festival’s Eyebeam area, sponsored by Giattina Aycock.
Maybe we’ll see you out there today…

Yes, Parliament House hotel’s coming down on Sunday
UPDATE: 2.16.2008 – Street closing information
We were hoping we’d be able to get that news up this evening before anyone else did, though the Birmingham Business Journal ended up beating us to the punch. We actually confirmed it with sources yesterday morning.
As far as a time goes, let’s just say that you’ll probably want to wake up pretty early this coming Sunday morning if you want to watch history take place – maybe some time around dawn. So there will probably be a few folks doing a double take as they drive down 20th Street on the way to church later Sunday morning.
We’d also not recommend trying to get too close if you do go down to “watch”; there’s a reason they normally keep you a few blocks away…
