Moose crossings in Birmingham?

If you’re driving down 20th Street heading towards Southside today, you may notice a couple of small yellow signs up on lightpoles to your left as you approach Morris Avenue. If you were to stop and take a quick look, you’d be a little shocked by what they say:

More places to find it fresh

Back in May Christina gave us a few options for finding fresh produce in the Magic City. Well, you can add at least three more options to that list. The Park Place Farmer’s Market started up its third season last Wednesday in Linn Park; they’ll keep on going until August 27 from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Jones Valley Urban Farm logoThe folks over at Jones Valley Urban Farm invite you over to the Gardens of Park Place to pick up produce between 4 – 6 p.m. at their after-work farm stand. It’s available Monday – Thursday through August and Tuesdays only from September to April.

Those living on the city’s East side can head over to the South East Lake Farmers Market at 78th Street and 2nd Avenue South every Saturday through October 25 for fresh produce.

Let us know if there are any others that we’re missing…

Mozilla controls the horizontal and the vertical…

Firefox Download Day 2008That should be what the folks at Mozilla should be saying (or thinking) today. Much of Birmingham’s blogosphere and Twitterverse is abuzz with the pending release of Firefox 3 today at 12 p.m. CDT.

So we’ll warn you that if you had any plans of surfing the web somewhere in that time frame, be prepared for some sites to be moving a little slow, since as of 11 a.m. 1,728,914 folks have signed up to help Mozilla attempt to set the Guinness record for the most software downloads in a 24-hour period.

We here at The Terminal are most interested since we actually design the site with Firefox in mind, so we’d at least suggest that you try out this new edition of the browser…

New Coke bottles invade the Magic City

Image of new Coca Cola contoured 2-liter bottle. Our local Coca Cola bottler was chosen to distribute the first of the new 2-liter bottles for the classic soft drink. The new bottle design references its famous glass contour bottles. According to the press release, Birmingham and Chattanooga were chosen to introduce the easier to hold and pour bottles because of “their longstanding loyalty to Coca-Cola and the strength of their local Coca-Cola bottler, Coca-Cola United.”

As part of the new bottle roll-out, we should be noticing a new advertising campaign in the near future. Those that visit the McWane Science Center here in the Magic City will also notice contour-shaped recycling bins given by the company to support a larger recycling initiative.

The release also says that you should expect that some of the other 2-liter bottle designs have changed when you visit the grocery this week.
