UPDATE: 8:06 p.m.; we’ve created the gallery – click here to view. We’re still welcoming photos too!

It’s a little cold outside right now and the real danger may be later today and tonight as the snow turns into ice. We’re hoping that folks will be careful and safe while they’re heading out to their destinations this evening.

If you’ve got any images from the snowfall, drop us a line at photos[at]bhamterminal.com and we’ll get ’em up here for you…

A little snow and ice fell around the Magic City Wednesday. Not much to get excited about but enough to remind us it is winter. Tonight’s lows are not going to get below freezing so no need to stock up on bread and milk.

Morris Avenue building collapse

One of the more surprising stories was the collapse of the rear of 1809 Morris Avenue in the early hours of Sunday morning. No one was injured in the collapse, which occurred directly across the street from downtown Birmingham’s Central Station.

Here are accounts from The Birmingham News and CBS 42.

Since we’ve spent most of the day beginning to test drive a new section of the site, we’ll make sure we make up for it in tonight’s last car. You may also want to keep your eyes peeled if you’re our friend on MySpace or Facebook about beta-testing for us beginning this evening. So if you want to do that, sign on up.

Random Shots: Birmingham helps prep for Tournament of Roses

One of the best things about the annual Tournament of Roses parade, taking place tomorrow, is the number of volunteers that help create those beautiful floats. What does this have to do with Birmingham, you ask?

A quick drive through the Lakeview district of town had many businesses closed through New Year’s Day. All of them are taking some well-deserved rest, though the folks at Hothouse Design Studio provided one of the more interesting reasons indeed:

Just in case you’re wondering just what that means, check out this image of the Rain Bird Corporation’s float, entitled Preservation Celebration.

So don’t forget to check it out on TV tomorrow!

We here hope that all of you enjoy a Happy New Year!
