Now we know that Black & White mentioned this news at the end of an article in their Table Talk section last edition, but we’re finding that there are a lot of people that were not aware of it. Two sites, one old, one new, feed Birmingham’s thirst for knowledge

People are starving for information about this city. This is true whether you’ve grown up here or if you’ve decided to make this your home for a little while. The result is several websites beginning to sprout up feeding this need for information. Two sites in particular are beginning to receive additional attention as a result of their efforts.

College Hills Ecoscape unveiling, McCoy Center

This will be the latest ecoscape put in place in Birmingham, Alabama. The Southern Environmental Center at Birmingham Southern College has installed ecoscapes in six other locations throughout the city (map). The dedication of this new location adjacent to The McCoy Center for Community Service will take place just before a visioning session begins at the future home of the Alabama Gospel Music Cultural Arts Center. The center recently had it’s first fundraiser as described in this Timetable calendar entry.

Schaeffer supports contact solution recall

We’re quite sure that many of you reading this did not know that Birmingham’s own Jack Schaeffer serves as the chair of the Contact Lens and Cornea section of the American Optometric Association (AOA). Well, many more people are aware of his role with that organization after an announcement made earlier this week used quotes from the founder of Schaeffer Eye Center (who BTW, is sporting a brand new website).

Barons win! Barons win!

The Birmingham Barons defeated the Jacksonville Suns 3-2 at the 12th annual Rickwood Classic at historic Rickwood Field. More than 5,800 turned out for the game during which the Barons donned uniforms from their affiliation with the Kansas City/Oakland A’s MLB franchise.

The Art of Collecting, Hawthorn Gallery

The Junior Patrons of the Birmingham Museum of Art are presenting this opportunity for everyone to learn more about the art of collecting.

Alan Bamberger is a San Fransisco-based art consultant and appraiser who specializes in all aspects of acquiring original works of art. He will provide a 101 session on collecting and give advice on starting a collection at all price points.

This FREE event will be held at Hawthorn Gallery ,located at 2017 3rd Avenue North (directions), one of several businesses that are either new or that have relocated to 3rd Avenue North in the city’s Central City Neighborhood.
