This week on Timetable: Books and fireworks

First of all, it’s more like the first two days this week on Timetable as we hope to have finally rebuilt the rest of the Magic City MySpace Directory by Thursday morning.

But we figured you’d want something to do until then (especially on Wednesday night) so here’s a list of some of the larger events in the immediate area for you to choose from.

We’ve also stumbled across this contest being organized by Birmingham’s own Daniel Wallace of Big Fish fame as well as a heads up on where you can catch him next week in town (just in case you didn’t already know).

This link leads to an article on NBC 13 that was just posted less than one hour ago. It reports that the FM signal will be going to an adult comtemporary format.

All those that are fans of the talk shows can stop wondering if the talk show hosts will have jobs. You will only have to go over to 850 AM beginning next week to find them.

Barnes & Noble now running UAB bookstore

There was little fanfare yesterday when Barnes & Noble officially took over the Hill University Bookstore on UAB’s Southside campus. The move brings some of the resources of one of the nation’s largest booksellers to Birmingham’s city center area.

In a press release Richard Margison, UAB vice president for financial affairs and administration said, “This relationship will allow us to enhance the bookstore services we provide to our faculty, staff and students.” Continue reading

UPDATE: The “fun” starts at 12:01 a.m. Thursday

They’ve started doing a countdown to when "the fun starts" on WYDE-FM, formerly known as The Source. If we’re doing our math correctly, the format change will be complete beginning at 12:01 a.m. Thursday morning.

Listeners this morning woke to Christmas in July as Christmas songs were playing on the staiton, though it appears that the signal strength has been reduced during the changeover.

Election 2007: What do you want us to ask the candidates?

NOTE: Please use the form on this page to submit any additional questions for the candidates. The comments on this page are closed. Thank you for your interest.

We need your help. It’s our intention to interview each of the candidates in the Birmingham mayor’s race (as AndrĂ© outlined in yesterday’s my Birmingham column).

What do you want us to ask? We won’t go as far as saying “no question is too silly” (well, because some are), but we want as many as possible to choose from.

Our plan is to ask the questions to all of the candidates though there will be a couple that will only be able to be asked to one or two, so keep that in mind.

Let’s see what comes up…

Fun 101.1 logoUPDATE: 7.5.2007 – Online link from image not working properly; has been disabled.

That’s the question fans of 101.1 WYDE-FM are asking this morning as noise or Christmas music fills the air as they tuned in this morning. A quick check of their website shows that the domain is being changed to Fun101radio.com.

UPDATE: The "fun" starts on Thursday morning

It appears that many did not expect this change today, although several people were upset about the last broadcast of the Home Show on Saturday, who actually announced the change in a news posting on their site. Continue reading
