Muse of Fire Macbeth auditions, WorkPlay

The folks at Muse of Fire are preparing for their next performance of Shakespeare at Sloss. They are holding auditions for their Spring 2008 production, Macbeth. The full requirements are over on their website, www.shakespeareatsloss.com, (especially important if you plan on auditioning to be either Macbeth or Lady Macbeth) though we can at least tell you to start working on that short Shakespearean monologue that you’re going to perform on January 2.

You can set up another time for an interview by contacting Muse’s Elizabeth Hunter at muse@elizabethofnewyork.com.

Just in case you’re not planning to audition, tickets go on sale in March and the show goes on May 3 &4. Stay tuned.

The Terminal Staff Meeting, Java and Jams

So, you want to join this motley crew of writers? Cool, because we’re going to need a lot more folks like you in the coming year to keep this thing going…

We’re looking for anyone that has a true passion and love for Birmingham, Alabama, its metropolitan area and all that it has to offer. Our submissions section (recently edited – check for the changes) offers a little more information about what we’re looking for in each section – and know that we’re not just looking for writers either. Photographers, video folks, people that like to podcast – all are welcome.

Our first “staff” meeting of 2008 will focus largely on trying to get some folks plugged into what they want to write about, so long as it relates to our goal of being a hub for information and conversation in Birmingham. We’ve also got some story ideas for folks that want an assignment. We promise it won’t be too painful

We still can’t pay you yet, and we’re not going to be too picky, though if you could forward us a sample of your writing that would even be better.

So come on out to Java and Jams (321 20th Street North) buy some coffee and let’s figure out where this thing is going this year.

So what was on the charts in 1970?

The Hits Just Keep on Comin' logoThe writer of The Hits Just Keep on Comin’ stumbled across the answer to that question when he intended to write a post about year-end countdowns. Check out this Madison, WI based blog written by a lifer in the radio business to see just what folks were listening to on WSGN on this date in 1970.

If you’re looking for a slightly more recent list of songs, check out this list of lists compiled by Shawn Avery. Just keep going to the next newest one. He found a lot of them.

We’re kind of wondering the answer to the question of what your favorite song of the year is ourselves… granted we’re still waiting for answers to our request for your vote on the biggest social event of 2007

On a special “Got plans this weekend?”…

Maybe it’s the lack of events that we know about. Maybe it’s the fact that we’ve all been running around for the past three weeks trying to get to everyone’s holiday party. Maybe it’s because we all can’t move like Nick Saban doing the Cupid Dance

Christina’s suggestions for plans for this weekend are a little on the simple side. Check ’em out

Blogging in the ‘Ham: Doc’s Political Parlor

It wouldn’t be a series about blogging without focusing on what some would consider a statewide pastime and hobby here in Alabama – politics. One of the largest segments of blogs maintained in Birmingham are political in nature and none seem to garner more attention than Doc’s Political Parlor (& Home of Lawn Mower Repair). Every day the folks over there are a great one-stop source of information either revolving around the state house in Montgomery, local town and city halls and even occasionally a couple of mentions from the national media.
