WorkPlay foreclosure sale postponed, deal in works

It’s an early holiday gift for fans of WorkPlay. We received word via an email earlier this afternoon from WorkPlay‘s Alan Hunter that the foreclosure sale of the entertainment venue scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday) has been postponed by the bank due to to a pending deal. The announcement was also relayed via Alan’s Facebook profile shortly thereafter.

More than 14,000 people joined the Save WorkPlay Facebook fan page after Dana Jaffe reported on The Second Front that the popular Southside venue was being threatened with foreclosure back on October 21, with pieces by The Birmingham News‘ Mary Carluso helping to raise the awareness level.

The support has not gone unnoticed by those at WorkPlay.

One more chance to help Birmingham go to SXSW

flyer-forwebIf you didn’t get a chance to go the last Gas Money concert to help pay for the 8 (that’s right – EIGHT) bands playing in Austin next week as part of SXSW, tonight’s your opportunity to make up for it.

Tonight five bands (four of them making the trip to Austin) will take the stage at WorkPlay for the second of two concerts to raise funds to help pull off that show. Tickets will be $12 at the door and all of the money raised will go towards covering expenses for the show in Austin (more on that in a bit), gas money (of course), other transportation costs and hopefully a little extra for their pockets. So, head on out and support the following bands this evening:

Indian Red (featuring Preston Lovinggood)
The Grenadines
Vulture Whale
13ghosts
Through the Sparks

Now, about that show in Austin…

A Wild Sweet Orange update

For those of you who haven’t ventured to Timetable recently, the band is currently a nominee for this week’s Freshman vote on MTVu – their video for “Either/Or” is currently in 3rd place. You’ve got until noon today to help them take the stage tonight in Birmingham as the winner!

So if you missed them performing last night at The Bottletree, you might want to consider venturing over to WorkPlay this evening for their 8 p.m. performance.
