Tonight you can join them over at The Wine Loft in the city center and find out what plans are for the future. It’s also a great excuse to enjoy a wine-tasting (and some pretty nice weather).

Larry Langford’s been a busy individual this morning. Here he’s seen talking to area school children during today’s Wachovia Way2Save event. Representatives from four area schools each received $2,000 for their scholarship funds at the event. The mayor spent most of the time he was at the event taking pictures with the children and answering questions about this morning’s approval of his proposal to pay for free bus rides in Birmingham beginning in May and running through August by the City Council.
According to the blog post made earlier today by The Birmingham News, the BJCTA board still needs to approve the proposal during their board meeting tomorrow.

No, we don’t ask that question in complete jest; it is one of the busiest days of the year for post offices across the country, including Birmingham’s downtown location. If you need to escape the insanity of filing those last minute returns, 1040 Fest may be your answer. This event is now in its fourth year and will take place across the street from the downtown office beginning at 4 p.m. (you’ve got until 10:40 p.m. to get there). The Birmingham News’ breaking news blog has posted a map showing where people will be standing outside of the main branch to collect last minute filings from area residents. If you really don’t have to go to the post office, you may want to find an alternate route to head home.

Those that visit Five Points South may notice a new occupant in the space that formerly housed a Gap and Seaside, FL based-Quincy Art Shop.
Fire + Ice Improvisational Grill officially opened yesterday afternoon after inviting some folks to try out their newest location (and first in the Southeastern U.S.) on Saturday evening. Additional locations are planned for Dubai and Panama later this year.
Guests were treated to a sneak peek event of what the restaurant has to offer. We could write about the place, the lively atmosphere and the food, but we figured why not just share some images taken by Bob Farley at the event.
We also wouldn’t mind a comment or two from folks that have already tried it out to let us know what you think…

The grassroots movement known as Critical Mass will attempt to make its presence known in Birmingham this evening at 6 p.m. Their inaugural ride will begin at Linn Park downtown. These rides, which take place monthly throughout the country (and the world) are geared to remind drivers that cyclists should be allowed to share the road and that they’re here.
The cyclists follow all of the rules of the road, emphasizing bicycle safety and a sustainable method of transportation. There’s no real leader or plan to the route – it just seems to happen (and it’s been happening now for more than 15 years). As you can see, the longer it goes, the more people get involved – like the scene from NYC up above.
