Know Your Money, Birmingham Urban League

Know Your Money is an economic empowerment program designed to teach 21-40 year old African and Latino American professionals personal money management strategies.

The program consists of a three (3) class curriculum to help participants understand their attitudes about money, establish a household budget and manage financial tools.  The program is sponsored by the National Urban League, in partnership with Honda Financial Services.

Participants are required to attend 2 out of the 3 sessions in order graduate from the program.

Birmingham Urban League celebrates 40 years

Birmingham Urban LeagueThe Birmingham Urban League will be celebrating their 40th anniversary this Friday at the Harbert Center. Both the Urban League and the Birmingham Urban League Young Professionals (BULYP) advance their missions through the delivery of programs that empower area racial and ethnic groups.

Both groups focus specifically on education, housing, workforce development and youth services. They are working together to close gaps by addressing the problems that racial and ethnic groups face in the areas of education, economics, health, civic engagements and civil rights.

Empowerment Through Collective Philanthropy, Innovation Depot

The first networking event of the year for the Birmingham Urban League Young Professionals, a volunteer auxiliary of the Birmingham Urban League, consisting of males and females, ages 21-40. This event will kick off the 2008 A.G. Gaston Conference.

(FYI – the conference is hosted by the Birmingham Business Resource Center and Advanced Planning Services, LLC and it will be taking place on February 19 & 20 at the BJCC. Click here for more information.)

The event is sponsored by the Birmingham Change Fund and features food, fun great networking opportunities and information about upcoming activities at this year’s conference.

Birmingham Urban League’s 40th Anniversary Celebration, The Harbert Center

The Birmingham Urban League is celebrating its 40th anniversary with an exciting event called Journey Through the Decades. The evening will feature Top 40 music from past the four decades from party band Total Assets and special dance performances from local performers. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served throughout the evening.

The evening will kick off with an awards ceremony honoring various corporate, nonprofit, faith based, government and municipal organizations that have made an impact on the community and helped the Urban League further its mission of assisting all racial and ethnic groups, in achieving social and economic equality.

Cost: $80 (they are offering a $40 discounted ticket for young professionals – if they use the code “YP”.)
