It’s time to explore The Black Market (Bar that is)

The traffic to Whitney’s interview with George Cowgill from August about the pending opening of The Black Market Bar has picked up, telling those of us who’ve been traveling out of town that Birmingham’s newest upscale bar along 280 has officially opened. We’ve got some photos from back in October too if you want to take a sneak peek.

They’ve got a MySpace profile, but since they also sent us an image of the lunch menu, I figured it’d be nice to share that as well.

Hopefully I’ll get a chance to try it out after next week’s adventure.

Sandella’s coming to Birmingham

Sandella's Flatbread Cafe logoNo, we don’t know where the locations will be (or even when they’ll open), but the word is that a local investor has announced plans to open two locations of Sandella’s Flatbread Cafe here in Birmingham, AL next year.

I’d suggest checking out their website to learn more about them (since they’d probably do a much better job than we would).

New Good People brew debuts at Harvest Brew

The post title pretty much tells the story. 9 Numbers is reporting that Good People Brewing Company will be introducing an Oatmeal Stout tomorrow evening at Homewood’s Harvest Brew event. Tria Market’s blog has all of the pertinent information on this Oktoberfest celebration beginning at 5 p.m.According to the 9 Numbers post, it’s a limited release, so if you don’t get it tomorrow, you’ll want to get on over to the J. Clyde and Five Points Grill next week.

While we’re at it, the folks at Good People are asking folks to become fans of their page on Facebook instead of becoming friends with their profile.

Organic food continues at Pepper Place

Thanks to one of our readers for the heads up. Anyone interested in organic and locally raised meat and produce will be happy to know that Owls Hollow Farm will continue at Pepper Place in the parking lot through the winter – if they have enough participation to make it worth the drive. They’ll have hydroponic lettuces and other vegetables, and will also have local organic pork every other week (and soon, grass fed beef!). They’re asking people interested to sign up for their mailing list on the site and to fill out the account info.

They’re hopefully going to be able to have great stuff through the winter! After the jump, find the info about this weekend’s options (via email):

Lights dim on The Anchorage

Full house at the Anchorage on it's last day in business on TwitPicJust a reminder that today’s the last day for The Anchorage in downtown Homewood. While it has been reported that the restaurant was closing at the end of October, the lease expired on September 1. Rumors of a relocation to Edgewood are said to be not true, so if you want to enjoy it one last time, today’s apparently the day. Some folks are sharing their feelings about the decsion in their own way

Urban Standard’s got a website

Those of you that have been wondering when Urban Standard would launch a website, they just have!

They’ve quietly launched urbanstandard.net and will upload some more information in the coming weeks, including their performance calendar (a stage has already been installed by the front window of the coffee house) and a photo gallery. What’s great for most folks is the fact that they now have an online detailed edition of their menu.

Head on over and check it out!

It’s National Cheesecake Day!

So after figuring out that there weren’t that many fans of Bennigan’s or Steak and Ale in town, we think that this post could definitely cause some additional traffic at The Summit this evening. The Cheesecake Factory turns 30 years old today – coincidentally they happen to share their anniversary with what’s recognized as National Cheesecake Day (yes, there seems to be a day for everything).

If you dine in tonight at The Cheesecake Factory, you’ll be able to get one slice of cheesecake per person for $1.50 – the price it would have cost back in 1978! Considering the average price for a slice is $8, we’re thinking this could be a steal…
