We’re about to turn on the archives, but we’d like to officially announce that the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama was selected by the majority of the 381 people that took the time to vote last week to be the beneficiary of this year’s Happy Hour for a Cause event at The Bottletree. We’d like to thank everyone that voted and hope that you’ll stay tuned to The Terminal as more details about the fund raiser/launch party on August 29 is available.

We warned you; now you’re on your own
It’s no secret that more state toopers will be on local highways starting today through Friday so if you get a ticket, it’s your own fault. Everybody’s already tried to warn you:
The Alabama Department of Public Safety is calling the statewide blitz “Take Back Our Highways” and is putting ALL its man/woman power on the road, even the desk jockeys. In a press release, DPS Director Col. J. Christopher Murphy said the increase in Alabama traffic deaths – at their highest level since 1973 – prompted the initiative.

2007 Drought: What’s up at the zoo?
So it’s still hot… and it’s not going away anytime soon, with today’s high reaching 103°. We know how we’re fairing in the heat, but how about the residents at one of the state’s busiest tourist destinations.
The folks at Fox 6 decided over the weekend let us know how the gang at the Birmingham Zoo was beating this insane heat recently, complete with video. We’d just love to have access to that pool right now.

The commission also agreed to conduct a one-day workshop with WRT to determine the steps necessary to complete the final master plan for what will be one of the largest parks in the region.

Travelogue: Seattle chimes in on “elevated 280” letter
Late last night, Metroblogging Seattle’s Dylan Wilbanks decided to post his comments about this letter published in yesterday’s Birmingham News (scroll down, it’s the last one) about the proposed elevated highway solution along U.S. 280. He’s currently in town to care for family and applauds alternative solutions to the traffic crunch along our region’s busiest road, but he does take some time to point out exactly what’s going on with regards to their effort over in America’s Emerald City. While he’s collecting opinions over on the West Coast, we’d love to hear what you think…
