Get Rhythm Experience, downtown library

Straight from a great little blog, here’s a fun event — the Get Rhythm Experience — to be held in the atrium of the Birmingham Public Library’s Central location downtown. And what is the Get Rhythm Experience you ask? It is a collaboration of drummers, percussionists and dancers led by John Scalici. If you’ve ever seen a drum circle around town, you’ve seen John Scalici in action. The group will perform original compositions which blend urban voices and sounds with world-beat influenced rhythms from West Africa, the Middle East and Brazil. It’s part of the BPL@Night series.

During the public comment portion of The Screening Room’s hearing, Mayor Langford offered and eventually proceeded to dispatch a tactical unit to the area surrounding the business. ONB President Michael Calvert and officers from our police department referenced an article originally published in Black & White last July as the main reason for the increased focus on the business.

The First 100: City Hall’s now WiFi

This could be a really interesting experience (at least for me and other media). Mayor Langford announced during his comments this morning that portions of City Hall are now public wireless areas.  How’s it working? Well, we’re posting this from council chambers right now.
